so many years later but this is still a classic. I have thought about this game many times in the decade since i played it, and I'm really excited to play it once more.

The way I beat Sea clan leader as Chaos mage is to have 174 mana (other values work, but differently), level 6 for the attacks and level 1 mana burn.
First, use level 6 attack.
Then, keep burning mana until the Sea mage starts their first attack.
You should have 13 mana.
Counterattack, then mana burn, then counterattack.
Finally: rest, counterattack, and repeat until done.
This method is compatible with winning every other fight. You need to finally level up mana burn when you confront the Chaos clan leader. I can beat the Sea judge of good with max level attacks and mana burn, and level 3 defences.

@frrh the ice clan AI is really bad if you low attack they will use 5 special to guard even if they can block it without

There's this bug. If you defeat your clan leader in the election before you challenge him for the ranking, you couldn't anymore. The text will just say ' You are the clan leader now.'

Came back to Kongregate to play this game, I move into college today and it feels like I played this game lifetimes ago. This was one of my favorite strategy games on the site. Where did the time go? :(

Ice water clan is OP. Using their ability they can take 60 health from you easily. How can I beat their leader like that?. A can't do any damage (I'm poison clan). I can try draining their health but when i'm done they can just freeze me and kill me because every turn they can do 1 damage while charging their freeze and i cannot do any damage besides poison (Around 60 i think).

considering how book of mages; the dark times is one of my favorite flash games to ever be created, it's a bit of a trip to come to this one which is so barebones in comparison. still a good game, if a bit unbalanced (red fire can beat anyone in the game once you have 6 high defend, 6 low attack, 4 mana burn, and the drain magic special, but poison water can literally NEVER beat the chaos fire clan leader)

One major issue is that it's impossible to beat the game as a Poison Water mage. One way or another, you have to fight the Chaos Fire clan leader (either to become rank 1, or to win the great mage election if you aren't rank 1), and it's an unwinnable fight. You'll lose 10HP per round to his attacks regardless of what you do, and there's no way to damage him other than poison (which adds up to 8 damage per round), since he'll always have a T6 attack ready thanks to Twice, which will block your T5 attacks. It might have been possible to win if he went first, since then you could land a hit on him by blocking his first attack and then attacking in the same direction before twice first charges, but since the player goes first, the fight is mathematically impossible to win.
/ I should note that the fight against the Sea Water clan leader is tricky as a Poison Water mage, but still possible. You just have to remember that he won't use mana burn if your mana is less than or equal to 12.

The Ice Clan Leader was tough at first playing as a Red Fire mage. Use high attacks when their SPECIAL is at 9 or so, they'll then freeze your high attack, wasting their SPECIAL.

poison dark water is the most op clan IIRC, I'll check but I'm pretty sure it's possible to beat anything as a poison mage.

@greatmatthew2 to beat red fire mage as a sea water mage :
Counter attack : def where the enemy att (usually low) and chain with an att at the same place. Requires to max out (low) defend and attack stats. You probably want to start mana burn to let the ennemy initiate the attack.
If you run out of mana, rest instead of defend and keep counter attacking. Heal (preferably 2) as needed.

actually there's no problem to win (number 1, great mage and invincible) with every race no matter if you choose black, white or neutral.

I found a major bug that causes a stalemate ever ending loop on the first mage trails if you level up a certain way, the 2nd mage you battle will always have the same skills as you causing this bug. this happens for all mage types that have mana burn.

Very good, There should be more RPGs like that. Could be just a little more special spells and something more than high and low attack and defence actions, but it's great, plot is good and you can feel that you are playing your own character. Really liked it.

I absolutely love this game; it's definitely one of my favorites. My only problem is that playing as certain clans will result in a 'hard cap' that you can't get past. For example, Dark Fire can beat everyone up till the Clan Leader of Red Fire with his level 4 low defense, level 6 high defense, insane mana pool, low attack, and mana drain. Silence might be able to counter the mana drain if it was possible to keep him silenced for long enough to get him to 0 mana and keep him there, but you simply run out of special (or life T.T) before that's even possible. ._.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but playing as chaos mage and assasinating Great Mage results in you being defeated in the end. There is no way to beat the Sea Mage who has full blocks and a full mana drain, as well as more mana than you, AND he automatically challenges you as you are not "good enough" to be the Great Mage.

Adter replaying this game, I have realized red fire is too OP. Like literally you have no chance to defeat them as Dark Fire

Interesting game but the story is confusing. I have played twice now and both times I did something that caused my rep to go bad. I had only the one choice in the beginning and playing Ice I made the good choice but in the end for whatever reason I got -25 clan rep fighting all the mages. This game needs to allow you to have good or bad choices, replay, or save and load or something other then having to reload and start all over from the beginning

@ atheos how to defeat him: wait till he has special 5, than after defending hight atack by hight defence strike him with hight atack - he will use first freeze, losing special. He will never use 2nd, 10 point freeze.

Found out a little "bug" in the game. If you click with right mouse, click forward, you travel to another clan whisout losing time...

it is impossible to beat the ice mage on rank 2 with a red fire mage: you burn 26 mana every 2 turns and he has 400 mana. this would take over 28 turns. on itself no problem except that every 11 turns the frost mage casts freeze 2 and hits you with 6 high bolts. this puts your death timer at 21 turns which cannot be overcome by your mana drain (because you can't drain/burn mana on the frozen turn). attacking isn't an option: he can block or overcome your max leveled attacks. balance issues. i only became the great mage because i was such a saint earlier. GJ on the second game though.
