Old Greek mythology, a man wanted his wife back from the dead. He traveled to the underworld, battled demons, and was told that he can have his wife back if her spirit can follow him back up, but he was never allowed to look behind him for his wifes spirit. In the end, he looked behind him, and he never retreived his wife. Sad story, great game.

I voted this game low because it's just so darn hard. There are other ways to be philosophical than just having a player die over and over. There are some screens where you just seriously have to do it 50 times and get it right from pure luck. NOT FUN.

man you try going to hell by defeating 2 evil underworld dudes to save your loved one then coming out of that amazingly deep cave through a different route (there isnt one way into hell??)
climbing up several ropes and a cliff getting back to your loved ones grave (coming back you cant look back) and then dissapearing as if it was all for nothing
still sad *sigh* 5/5

Okay, If any of you don't get the meaning of this, it's that our main character here just lost a loved one and he's dreaming of how he could've saved her from this underworld, if he hadn't looked back and grew the confidence to face forward. But as soon as he's done dreaming, his imagination finishes as does the person he wishes he could be.

Sad if you put it to a real life context..many people face tragedy like this and think about it their whole life, and realise after only what feels like a day but many years infact passes they die..sad context as i said before. But yeah, Kong needs a category for these types of games. Like an other game i remember, it was amazing i can't remember the name though..about a hermit who lost his wife or something :S

Don't Look Back is a modern retelling of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.but it is slighty modernised as in the old version there was a harp instead of a handgun and he wasn't in a flash game.deep philosophical meaning gets a 5*'s from me.

seeing that this is based off an old story it makes me wonder why other stories don't have games about them. I really liked the whole concept of the game and it didn't even follow the story exactly if it had it would have been really difficult to make the game work like it does. I'll give it a 5/5

I stayed up till way past midnight to finish this game........I heard the dying sound so many times that i started hating it. Other than that, it's a good game.....one where you can feel good about yourself when you've finished.

Don't Look Back is a delightful little platformer. I've played platformers with more features and better replay value, but I had to pay money for them. The features that the game actually has are all well-done. Indeed, my biggest complaint with this game is that it isn't longer; I reached the end, and I wanted to keep playing. Five stars; truly a gem among free Flash games.

The way I interpret it, the hero is at the grave of his loved one, and he may even be thinking about the legend of Orpheus itself, thinking how he would battle through the underworld if he could, and during the game he is lost in his fantasy. When it comes to bringing the rescue back to reality, he imagines coming back to the grave yard with her and sees himself there. It was just a vain, forlorn fancy which overtook his mind, and he is woken up from it.

Or it could have actually been the retelling of the story of orpheus from greek myths....and you could just be trying to make something big out of nothing...

I was sorta expecting a final boss in the first/last room, that you would have to defeat without looking back. There should definitely be a sequel!
