the dog is easy, let him jump over you shoot him in the back, let him jump over you again, shoot him in the back. then he will try to charge, so jump over him, and shoot him in the back

adding upon r2d2go's guide do not climb back up imediatly after shooting the big demon in the face he will shoot a fire ball at the first platform everytime and if your standing there it is almost undodgeable

As someone who enjoyed the horribly frustrating hobbyist games of the 1980s, I'd have played this for hours when I was 8. This is far too long and far too annoying for a BOTD though.

nice game. only difficult boss was the lion, really. game shouldn't be too difficult or too easy, and hits it right about the middle. not sure what's going on with the Leaderboard/Highscores though: it's all kinda messed up. that boss tune was just a little grating on the ears too, but other than that, great game.

I think I'm a pretty decent gamer, unless I'm playing a Terry Cavanagh game. Man there are some challenging stuff he throws at us, and I love every minute of it. Nothing feels quite as good as beating a hard game. And of course I loved the ending. Great game! 5/5

heres a hint - if you are making a story based game, please dont make it so difficult i cant see the rest
sorry, its just all these comments say how good it is, but i just cant beat the second boss :(

The jump on this is so stinking buggy it's beyond irritating. You cannot hold down the arrow keys and get a consistent jump.

Can someone please explain the game to me? I understand that he is going to the underworld to save her, but I don't understand the end. Please explain, I would really like to know!1

Well it is not a bad game, but I think the metaphor is not THAT deep, the use of the mythology of not looking back is interesting but hardly ground breaking, and personally, I know this might sound a little shallow, but I think the 8 bit graphics detract a little from the game, and a smoother finish would have given the game a little more gravitas, though the sound track was nice, I felt parts of the game play were a little clunky with the jumping (esp the horizontal lightning bolt near the end) Personally I much prefer games where agility is not a major hindrance to gameplay(Gunbot and final ninja based purey on controls). I was going to give 3 stars, mainly because that horizontal lightning bolt annoyed me lot, but I settled for a more generous 4 mainly because I liked the music and the attempt to put in a theme unlike some other games though I felt 4 was a bit generous 3.5 stars for me ideally

Extremely frustrating controls. The inability to rejump immediately upon landing makes for a significant hindrance, especially in the last boss fight and battles against the giant fire demons. The bats are the biggest annoyance though, because combined with your inability to rejump or significantly outrun them, when they come in from above you have very little time to actually hit them correctly. Dropping into places with enemies was always the worst. 2/5

Despite having graphics that are straight from an Atari 2600 (I actually owned one as a kid) this game imparts more emotions and feelings than most games with the best graphics. I muted it at the start because I was watching something, and I forgot to unmute it until I was almost done, which sucks because just having the rain made for such a great atmosphere. When I got to the girl, I thought you just had to outrun her. Took me a minute to realize I died every time I turned around. Then I remembered the story of Orpheus. The 2nd half of the game when you're walking back is just brilliant. You have to get by everything without looking back. When the girl was following me, even though it was just pixel graphics, I felt very...haunted, and yet loved by her. Incredible that he was able to create such a game using the simplest of methods. Goes to show that it's quality, not quantity and that sometimes, more really is less.

SPOILER ALERT the Hound (cerebrus) must be shot in the back right after the jump,
Hades himself needs to be shot in the head

Just thought about the best post here.
The story is Orpheus and Eurydike, the old version takes places in the antiquity; in this one you use a gun.
This leads to my conclusion that the man you play is in our times and thinks of the old story of orpheus and how stupid it ended (Orpheus turned around and Eurydike died); and as he finally comes to the climax he hopes for a good ending and turns around, just to realize that his dream didnt come true.
So maybe the game is about the death and our helpnessless in front of it.
Well anyway; loved it, great sound, hard and pixxels, simply awesome sad.

This game, along with company of myself and coma, should be put in a "makes you think" category. These games always make me question, "what was I really doing?"

imacowofDEATH i think "that dog thingy" ur refering to i think is actually meant to be cerbarus satans dog guarding the gates of hell but one thing is that cerbarus is a 3 headed dog but that is just my thinking

even if it'sa "just" a game I like its story, you that can't turn back to see the ghost of your beloved...the end is sad bat it's also the best end we would have on this game!

That is a very saddening game. I loved it, the soundtrack was moving, the Greek mythology behind the return, and in the end, the ultimate paradox. You never went through that whole journey, only in your head. I wish to rate it infinite/infinite, this moved me and I hope it moves others. I have no other explanation of feelings.

Ah, this was such a smart game! I only realized that it related to the Greek myth only when Eurydice / the ghost came back. xD It took a lot of deaths to understand the game, but it's not hard, just really clever!

guys for dog boss all you need is wait for that big dog to jump and then rush forward and shoot him when his back is turned and on second time dog goes angry and does longer but low altitude jumps to escape this go to the corner and the dog bounces off the side wall which will normally kill you and then shoot him when his back is turned again,on third one the dog boss goes beserk and runs along the ground there is no way to escape that except by jumping which i am quite sure its really hard to escape by jumping cause on second rush the dog always gets you so as soon as you strike the second shot on back run to the opposite corner the dog comes rushing but will stop after a small distance as soon as he stops near you just jump and quickly turn back and shoot at his ass again and you win.
