@jonathanwbush: Yes, your population is in every square even if you've already built something there, so if the aliens are targeting your cannons, people are still dying. They do nothing to protect your weapons, aside from potentially dissuading the attacking ships from targeting those squares in favor of another one where they can do more population damage.
Save game and autosave both disappeared 25 days in. :( I want the hard badge, but it's hard to justify spending the time if I have to do it all in one session to be sure of completing it.

Doesn't really work without the old C-64 game paddles as the controller, and the bullets move too slowly, and hammering the space bar to shoot isn't nearly as fun as hammering on the paddle button was, but hey.
Yes, the people doing the stuff this game is complaining about are annoying.
