After getting brilliant on all night levels, here's my opinion on what's good:
1. Every rank makes a huge difference. Playing the night missions as you go or replaying a mission can turn a seemingly-impossible level to manageable, although the game is beatable without doing any night missions. (I finished at ~rank 25-27 without brilliant)
2. Every upgrade path has about 1 good upgrade per column, except orc, where every ability except Home Front is extremely good. But try to achieve some balance on your upgrade paths for maximum effect.
3. Burst towers are almost always best (Ballista, Freeze, Inferno), where Bunker Dens and Dread Crypts are better for (fear-able) bosses. Catapults are usually better than rocket towers, except if you need it to pop ninjas. Against Divers, consider not upgrading Inferno 2 towers. Lightning crypt is only good on level 16--if you aren't breaking sacred stones for badge.
Having your enemies stack one side of the map is one of the most unnecessarily frustrating things I've ever experienced in a TD. It's like some maps I have a 20% chance that I autolose, because I might get 3 waves in a row at some point all on one side of the map.
I still hate how I have to start each level with my towers at the back, so they can get exp for later, too. It's like walking on glass. All towers should share 20% exp, and extra exp when a tower is maxed should spread to other towers.
Playing on Veteran, I was really excited about the difficulty spike when jungle started, only to be disappointed how easy the caves turned out to be. The Necromancer tower is really OP and makes everything easy. The enemies in cave lack variety (no aura creature, Darter and Nightscale redundant?). Archer units were also never fast enough to warrant building assassins to counter them, making assassins undesirable. Also, the encyclopedia was pretty void of details; I had no idea that assassins had a base dodge chance, for example, until the end of the game. Please provide a DPS stat. I don't feel inclined to get the app or premium content, as I feel the original game, while having less interesting units, did all of the aforementioned things (except details) better. This game seemed like the underground portion was simply rushed...no pun intended hehe
PLEASE hotkey for the hero! or if there is one, TELL US WHAT IT IS! And, if you click a spell's hotkey twice, please CANCEL the effect. I have wasted fireballs before because I freaking couldn't cancel it in time! THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME GAME!!
Beat the game on hard in 4.5 years. I did not defend an outpost a single time. I got crushed every time, and old outposts that were retaken were suddenly harder than the final battle...wtf?
If you lost your save file in the last Adobe Flash update, don't lose hope! Try doing a search for EBF4 in your main drive. If there's a .sol file found, that is your old save (check date and time of file)! Copy and paste it somewhere safe - this is a good idea to do often anyways. To restore the file, start EBF4, create a new autosave file, rerun the search in your computer, and paste your .sol into the same folder as the new autosave (check file date and time to make sure it's the new one). Your old data should then be restored!
Did anyone else finish the game missing one bow, male armor, and female armor from completing a square of equipment? I'd really like to find these. If you can confirm these inventories should be perfect squares, please message me. Thank you!!!
Another suggestion (even though the game is already awesome!): It's really frustrating that random attacks that kill the last enemy like counter, burn, poison cause the next wave of enemies to have the first strike. As a player, I have no control over some of these random effects, and when a wave of 5 enemies comes in with first strike and murder my team, it's quite frustrating to deal with.
Can we please have random attack procs (ie no legs) come at the END of a turn, so we can revive a teammate if he/she were just killed by an enemy? Thank you!
Only beat Sunny Forest so far, but it's a great tower defense! All your games are awesome, but I really like to see you "branch" out (hehe). Not sure why this game has less than four stars. It's a great TD! Although I find this more minimalist TD allows me to better concentrate on enjoying other fun aspects, I bet if you added in upgrades and a few more towers/enemies like all the other TDs, others would rate it as a top TD. Well, from me you still get 5/5 for bringing TDs back to their roots (oh my puns!)
