I don't really get what people hate about this game. The only bad things I can find about it are the slow bullets and the fact that the game is pretty much without difficulty until level 15, then once you die you have to start the whole game over. 3/5
The music is great, and I absolutely love how the bullets come out according to the rhythm. Besides that, the graphics are fantastic, the gameplay is superb, and the difficulty is just right. What else does a game need?
Another thing that I believe would make this game much better is the ability to plan ahead. It's seriously annoying to not be able to leech twice when you have 25 MP, then attack to restore 35 MP, then are forced to attack again or use a potion because the game can't register that you'll gain MP beforehand. Another example is when you get the last enemy infantry army down to where you can one-hit it, then can't use a tower on the same turn. :/
This game is incredibly annoying and fickle. Sometimes a torch wants to get lit when the fireball came close, and other times the fireball passes directly THROUGH a torch (yes, the top, not the unlightable bottom) without lighting it.
Something very annoying: clicking anywhere (or even just on the continue button) doesn't make all the text appear at once. I can read faster than the text gets revealed, and there doesn't seem to be any option to change the text speed. It's a minor detail, but I want to see the story, and I don't want seeing the story to take so *long.*
*survives fight with 1 HP* "Pro Tip: Your health was low at the end of the last battle. You should do some training fights and upgrade your equipment at the town before continuing." Yeah, I noticed.
Hmm... I kicked a character, selected Jim, then started level 7 and finished it, and then my character started hovering, all stats went crazy (5 syringes, 9999 health, ? weapons, only showed knives even though I had a katana and a machine pistol) and the name and picture for the text box was blank... went to start level 8 and the empty slot was selected, but it showed Jim's character. Doesn't really get in the way of gameplay at all, but still a strange glitch.
It seems like some of the secrets are put there, not to offer rewards to those who find them, but instead to annoy the living crap out of speedrunners...
