Great idea, beautiful looking game, but I found it was difficult to make the strategy meaningful. As other says there could be a lot more, especially under survival mode, which feels like it was simply tacked on. Also, the controls are difficult in the heat of things, as I found it was hard to deselect units when they were massed
I don’t understand the overwhelmingly positive reviews of this game. Overall, this game didn’t seem like a strategy game, as teams who would lose one time would get an S ranking the next. It seems as though the variant in it is fairly small, and you can identify the useful team model quickly enough that experimentation isn't fruitful. While the simple mechanics are fun when you're winning, they become incredibly frustrating if you choose a poor team in the beginning The process of the evolving the monsters seemed too much like a shot in the dark, and the results of the battles seemed to be much more influenced by the opponent's team. I kept playing, thinking that the game had to be good, given the reviews, but truth be told it never got better. It was simply too simple, and boring. I give it a generous 3/5, mainly because of the beautifully styled monsters and awesome art style in general (easily the best part of the game).
@PerseusStoned: This is not the same thing as autosave, nor the reason I want autosave. I want autosave for when I close out of a game without saving, expecting my progress to be saved. What you are refering to is a continue game option. What you are talking about does NOT save your progress, automatically or otherwise.
Playing this game seemed kind of like polishing all the coins in your pocket. Sure they look really nice, and it's got a simple, repetitive fun to it, and by the time you're done you really appreciate the beauty of the coin. But in the end all you have is a pocket of shiny coins that aren't worth much. The game is brilliantly done, but it's so simple and short, with no real incentive to stay and grind to build a better fort, or buy the better guns, when you can be out of there with no trouble in under 2 days. Looking back on it, I wonder if there was any point to the forts at all? I certainly never used it except for sleeping, but that's because I didn't realize you couldn't sleep on the ground. Regardless of this nit-picking, it is still a wonderful little game and good for a 5 or 10 minute distraction. 4/5
This game is a simple turn based RPG with no real draw. The story line was ridiculous (killing each other... in order to see who's the best general?), combat simplistic, and item system basic. Combat, what this game should focus around, is merely a collection of basic spells that you eventually find a routine that, no matter what the enemy is, you plow through. For me, it was stun, holy quake, stun, wisdom aura, repeat. The boss fights, which could have been interesting, were either the usual battle, or frustrating grinds with enemies that were immune to your stun effects. The only time I would ever lose any battle was if both of my characters got stunned. From there you're done, just waiting for the enemy to beat the crap out of you.
The game also has many bugs, from enemies mana, to saves disappearing. The saves are particularly frustrating in a game as samesie and grindy as this one. Overall, this is an unpolished and bland game. 2/5
Bugzilla really wasn't that hard. I killed him first try. Use Scientist and looter, that way every stun grenade does 20-25. Make sure you're at full health, have all medikit, mochi helmet, sledgehammer and alien blaster (with around 100 ammo, to be safe). Use an ankh to be safe, but I didn't need it. Good Luck!
Also, to get the time traveler, just take Boffin and Dog to carpark.
"Meh" game at best. As a whole, I found it not fun. Merely grinding through kilometer after kilometer of random zombies, survivors, and army men, all with a car that handles like a soapbox derby cart. I understand the concept of a game which is centered around improving yourself, whether it be your attack, your ship, your car, whatever. But in this situation, when you're getting started, it just gives off the impression of very poor controls. But when you combine that with the poor collision detection, the game feels unfair and simply not fun. 2/5
This game is another basic scrolling jump game. It looks pretty enough, but it (at least in my mind) sucums to one of the common problems of these types of games: boredom. In my opinion, the games should include an introductory 10-15 seconds of "warm up" then steadily get harder and harder (normally by a combination of more difficult jumps and speed). Each game schould be relatively quick, wetting the appetite of the gamer for another chance. But this game takes it's jolly time to get up to speed, causing the gamer to lose interest in another round. I lost after 120 seconds, merely because I was too bored to keep going. The achievements are a nice touch, but when you unlock 8 within the first couple of seconds of the game, they don't feel like achievements, more like the token trophies they give to little kids. Overall this game has the artistic feel and fun points system down, but lacks the crucial importance of an engaging game. 2/5
Through my brief time playing this game, it seems as though EW4 has lost some of the magic of EW3. Instead of fun, spam happy games of war, and simple upgrade system, and overall fun, finished appearance, EW4 seems slow, and monotonous. Instead of spamming, it's boring, boring grinding. It takes ages to grind down the castle, the upgrading and map aren't nearly as interesting or easy to understand as before, and it seems most strategy has been reduced to setting everyone to "assault". Overall, this appears like a game that the developers planned, but never played themselves to see the flaw in such a slow monotonous game. 2/5
Simply beautiful. Games like these, I find it difficult to enjoy. I'm too used to running through dungeons and sidescrollers quickly to get to the end and move on. This is one of those games you really have to relax and pay attention. The music, pacing, artwork, and simplicity of it was all excellent, once you slow down and enjoy it. But there are some minor flaws. I found it slightly unintuitive to understand where I was supposed to go, or what I was supposed to do, particularly after being spat out of the worm, or in the basement. That being said, they were not so terrible as to distract from the overall game experience, and such set pieces as the trampoline were simple, yet extremely enjoyable. Kudos, wittyhobos, on an excellent game. 5/5
Not my kind of thing, But this is remarkably well done. A simple concept that was greatly refined, allowing an excellent mix of both challenge, and accessibility. While there is the pressure to go fast, the game is does not punish you for failure, preventing frustration. The easy way of being able to go back and retry levels is perfect. All in all, a spot on game. Not my favorite, but that's just personal preference. 5/5.
Pretty easy. Mostly it comes down to spamming bots, with minor elements of upgrading. It'd be nice to have smaller battles with more strategy, as well as an overarching campaign and rpg elements, instead of a couple of disjointed missions, leading up to a lackluster endurance mode.
Building was difficult due to a poor menu system, and the scrolling really needs some work, as it becomes difficult to build on the edge of the map.
But regardless, a fun little game. With a little refining it could be really great.
Terrible controls and arbitrary attacks. I never know when i'm going to dash attack or do a backflip. The game has so much potential for fun, but its in these tiny arenas where you're more likely to fall off the map due to bad controls and a visual clusterf*ck on screen. 2/5
