This is a really fun concept, but all countries shutting down their borders for symptom-less and nonlethal diseases is absurd. If you want to avoid what I think you do, just make it so there are prerequisites on infection methods...Like, "Must spend 20 points on symptoms before buying Rodents."
The good:
1. Great animation. Very pretty to look at without playing!
2. Most fun typing game concept ever. This has the potential to help many kids learn how to type...except for...
The Bad
1. The font used to show the words is so small as to be unreadable. In this game, it means the game is halfway unplayable.
2. Made-up non-words add to the frustration and confusion that cause missed combos. (H and M look very similar, and non-words cause further problems.)
3. The music causes constant clipping on my machine; I have to play on mute.
The Verdict: 2/5 stars until the font is made bigger, or *something* is done.
I can type 120 wpm, but this game makes me miss combos often because of the two "bad" factors.
Good work with the art!
Alter the music.
Make words significantly bigger.
Remove non-words from the vocabulary.
Voila, you *would* have a 5! (and one that I bet school teachers everywhere would let their students play.)
If yer having trouble take out the first boss form's right arm, and just let him keep spawning enemies; the spread laser can kill very, very fast.
Upgrades go like this:
Rifle (starting weapon)
Spread version
Blaster
Spread version
Homing Missile
Spread version
Flamethrower
Laser
Spread version
If there is one after that I didn't find it.
The play controls are difficult, I couldn't even do a single wall jump after 2 minutes. 1/5 since it is unplayable just now---it looks solid, but you *must* do something about improving the wall jump mechanic to make it playable.
The jokes are the best part! I qualify for a number of these cultural jokes, and that just makes them funnier. My favorite is the one about the moon. :)
Agreed, this is a great game--more levels are needed!
I would also add other features...powerups, or something---skills, super cells, home cells, anything. This is a great concept.
1/5
Erasing all my progress after a browser cache cleanup? There are just so many problems, but that one clinches it for me---This particular game is a 1 until it fixes that most horrible of errors, the lack of a reliable save state.
(This is annoying as I had all but one trophy.)
The Good: Leveling is fun, although not exactly a "whole new direction."
The Bad:
1. Pixel-perfect placement with no pause feature is not fun at all.
2. Arrow towers even at max level are nowhere near as good as a level 1 cannon.
3. Ballistas are only useful after you have many, many cannons to speed up.
4. Maps are very small, and most paths are just straight lines.
Wonderfully original concept for a puzzle game!
The only problem is when the 'bots get out of whack for no discernible reason. Of course, recording all their movements in Flash is actually pretty impressive---I think it might just be the collision detection or something, but... Great job!
Also, add a pause feature, and don't let enemies teleport ON to you. That just makes the game about pure luck, and that's bad.
These aren't difficult to implement, and I think it will give you 5 stars instead of the current 3.
This has some incredibly smooth action, so I love it.
There are a few things that really, really need to be fixed:
1. Make an autofire, please. Don't make me break my mouse holding it down so long.
2. New music. 4 notes = not so great music-wise. I recommend Newgrounds.com if you don't have any desire to shell out for it.
3. Make a tutorial or even just a screen showing what the different powerups LOOK like. In-game it's a bit too furious to learn effectively.
Do that, and I think you might win game 'o the month! (And I gave you 4/5 stars, which I will change to 5 if you fix those things.)
The Good:
1. Love the interface. Smooth, easy to use, gets you where you want fast & attractively.
2. Fun system with the Gems. It is original for a tower defense game and is a great mechanic.
3. Long game. When a game doesn't have replay value per se, it is great when it is long. You can re-play levels, but it is very easy to do past level 40.
The Bad:
1. The strategy guide was lacking. I beat every board with glowing frames, and I still have no idea what Hue is or does. Many statistics are still a bit of a mystery.
2. No control over what color gem you make? Very annoying.
The Not-As-Great-As-I-Would-Have-Liked:
1. I would have liked some music.
2. Some powerups only available on Armor Games? Why punish me?
3. The bonuses from badges in-game aren't anywhere near as rewarding as they were for Balloon Invasion. It was a better use of time to just bring a new wave than to make a thousand gems and combine them.
I will definitely play the next one from this creator!
As always, PixelJam makes a great game. Plenty of replay value, too, with all the trophies and eggs and such.
5/5
Can't wait to see the next PixelJam creation!
