Mante, don't try to capture Europe the first turn. Make a bee line for australia. Some turn when you have a few extra armies complete Europe by grabbing russia. You'll need a bit of random number generator luck to complete this one but it's possible!
If you play normal mode the AI's will target each other. On hard they only fight you. The way to win on hard is to capture more cities than another faction then sign a pact with that faction. Then they will target one of the other AI's beside you. Choose one of the two remaining factions and target them exclusively for destruction until you kill them. Then pick off the last at your leisure. Happy hunting! :)
This is an interesting and challenging game. I like it. Of course I've been ignoring the economic achievements. I like my conveyors to look like spaghetti :P
This game rocks. There's no repetitive clicking, no begging for cash, no annoying energy system. Just a game that presents the player with the chance to make decisions and see the results. More like this please :)
@Roboduck Loosing in 9 turns is easier than winning in 9 turns. To loose you only have to loose your own capitol. To win you must capture all three enemy capitols. Even if one of the enemies have been beaten by another, when you capture the capitol of the victorious foe the one that had been defeated respawns.
I call foul on the claims of winning in 9 or less turns. With the size of the board and the movement rate of the units, it takes a minimum of eight turns just to march from your own capitol to the two on the opposite side of the map. And that's assuming that there are no obstacles what so ever in your path. So if your first army marches straight to the enemy capitol, then on the next turn you get a second army that marches straight to the other enemy capitol, that puts you at nine turns and there is still another capitol to capture. I think ten turns would be the theoretical limit even assuming the other players weren't even on the board.
161281 Blue, hard mode, 29 turns. I signed a pact with violet about turn five before we made contact so that saved a bunch of units. Violet finished off red and I wiped green. I snuck around the bottom of the map and captured a city close to violet's territory before they finished red and had a nice base to launch my attack on them as soon as red bit the dust.
Map #978188 is an interesting fight as Green. It took me 39 turns on hard. I defeated Purple first, then Red, and finally Blue. I tried to make a quick conquest of blue but the red got there fast enough to save them resulting in a protracted war.
I managed to defeat map 399366 on hard as blue. It took 41 turns though. Send your first squad west to capture the three cities there. Send your next squad south, but don't engage the Green, ignore them and skirt around to capture the cities they ignore. On hard the computer makes a bee line for your capital, so they will leave some towns for you to use. After sending those two squads out keep some back to protect your capital and use the reinforcements from the towns you capture to continue your advance. The red will probably capture the three towns between you, but hold them off as long as you can. Concentrate on defeating the Green, then Purple, and Red last. Good luck!
So, finally finished this. If possible, I would give it 30 stars. Really captured the old game feel while poking good natured fun at it too. The music was especially good. Seriously, this is good enough to be sold in stores. I would buy this for the DS. In conclusion, rock on man.
