There's so much wrong with this game... Not enough not to play it, but please...
* if you want to screw up with the ammo types so much, it'd be better to make the guns wholly fictional. VSS Vintorez firing 5.56x45 is about the worst sin, but Lee Enfield modded to 9mm parabellum is a serious contender too.
* I really hate the ammo system. How can I merge two half-used ammo boxes?
* Why on earth can't I reload with ammo in backpack? Make it cost more APs but just don't force us to go into inventory to transfer ammo box from backpack to belt, that's so unfriendly
* The minimum range of weapons sucks. Yea, long-barrelled weapons are harder to use in CQC - but that only applies when you need to swing around quickly and aim. When an enemy is running against you (no lateral movement), the penalty shouldn't apply at all.
I have a feeling that this game tries to give JA a bad name, ditching most of the things that were good about JA games.
Hmm, this might have been good 5 years ago. Horribly slow, basically no innovation, no health bars, manual coin picking, really really boring and weak traps, almighty spell on a long cooldown doing half the damage of a single cannon shot... and plenty of small bugs.
(the boss in last level caused no damage to me, traps ingame show unupgraded values...)
The only positive thing could be the graphics, if one cared...
Funny thing, not only does the key-upgrade-beyond-the-limit glitch work, it also doesn't check available money. So you can place the tack and upgrade it to hypersonic before round 1. You'll get into negative cash (the minus sign is not shown), just save for a cannon to deal with leads, and then a few more tacks and upgrade :)
A nice game, not many side-view turnbased like this. What it IMO needs:
1) more gear accessed in later levels (nothing to spend on past map 10)
2) opportunity fire / sentry mode. Without it, it's absolutely trivial to do hit-and-run attacks on enemies and equally painful to see enemies walk around a bored character.
3) Differentiated attack speeds, no way everything should cost 3 AP
4) Gear without penalties. Both AP and accuracy matter too much to be worth sacrificing.
But 5 stars anyway :)
Also, there's a bit of cash and stars imbalance. At level 18 I've maxed out the best launcher (well, ignoring precision) and there's just so many things to star-upgrade...
I think it needs a bit less grinding and luck-based play in the end. I was just able to reach distance 1.16M from the initial launch with no interaction. I'd want to be able to skip the earlier sections.
A few comments/suggestions:
1) The ability to change warrior colour should be available in-battle, maybe at the cost of one step. Choosing in the pub is completely useless.
2) Collect all cubes for blue hero should cost way less, maybe 10-15. It's a skill not worth taking at all, because it just MIGHT be useful once or twice in the whole game.
2) Collect gold - similarly too expensive.
3) It is very unclear how long will the powerups last. I've used double hero attack and it definitely lasted for more than 1 battle - might be a bug.
4) For one step, I'd like to be able to swap two heroes in battle.
a well-polished one. Fun although I'd appreciate having more stuff to research/improve. And survivors on defense should use the weapons I don't use.
And it was actually way too easy, I never needed melee defenders.
I've just verified that in-game achievements do not work with the first save slot. So if you want Cheeves in the Breeze Badge, all you have to do is start the game in slot 2 (or possibly 3, although I didn't try that one).
And the best thing about the game is that even experienced users can find a lot of challenges, i.e. by deciding not to recruit any characters, sticking just with those who are part of the storyline, and/or not to buy any gear, or never to grind for more XP, playing every battle just once. All CAN be done and each has a very different feel and approach...
This was the second flash game I spent money on, after Gemcraft Labyrinth. And I think that the demo did a good job - after I finished playing it, it really was "shut up and take my money" :) - and that's ages ago and since then, the devs made so much work on it, making the experience better...
