I think this game is not that bad, but it definitely lacks in several areas. Weapons do not feel like great powerful machines, they are more like squirt guns. It could have some nice bullet-hell-ish mechanics, but instead it's virtually impossible to dodge anything completely, since your squad just sort of wobbles around your back. The upgrade system could be improved by offering some choices instead of basically giving me three new default upgrades every rank.
To me the game doesn't seem to be better or more interesting in any way than it's predecessors. It seems to be a bit bullet hellish but it doesn't do that too well. And is it just me or the weapons feel just weak.
And to totally trash it: why does the game actively try to be hideous?
Bit of brainless fun in the beginning, noisy tedious waiting in the end. Even though the game suggest you place your turrets strategically, it doesn't even matter - even with quite random placement is the medium difficulty an easy win.
Wonderful idea! Zombie juicer / off-road racer / kitten cannon mix!? Awesome! But.. Firstly, the game is really short. It was so fast I haven't even one of the cars decently upgraded when I moved on to another or the game ended. Secondly, it can be won just by holding the UP key and requires no skill at all; it's no challenge. Also, the front/rear balance thing worked well in Elastomania and other *biking* games, and maybe with quads or something, but freakin' truck? - that's pushing it a little too far. My biggest problem with this game would be the fact, that instead of zombie mashing (...and the fun it brings) it favors the flight or avoidance. Take the gun upgrade for example: normally having an extra gun would mean extra fun in a game, but here it just steals you the opportunity to decapitate a few more zombie friends (not to mention the fact, that it shoots when you don't need it).
P.S: What the heck is the business with the super wheels!?
I was thrilled to see a nice skill/perk tree ater a long time only to discover that the skills repeat themselves! Overall feel of the game is sloppy - it makes little sense gameplaywise and the visuals are not pleasant to look at. Going several levels with so little souls that I couldn't afford anything wasn't motivating either. The combat system has is a neat idea - particularly the "strategy mode" (why is it called a mode though? It seemed more like a phase or something /nitpicking) but was pretty overshadowed by the tediousness of the rest of the fight. The siege was monotonous and all the clicking it needed pretty much hurt my hand.
I feel like this game doesn't hold up to it's siblings' standard. Firstly, the navigation is just confusing - you click 'down' to get to the bar and then down again to leave? No thanks. Lots of the actions are uninteresting and quite random, you don't really feel the evilness or much fun. I felt that instead of clicking eagerly to see all the fun there is (like I did with the previous games), I boredly went trough the tasteless just to get an easy badge (...I refuse to call *this* 'medium').
So,
for one thing, the game seems decent to me. It's not really new or anything, but the execution is neat.
Going backwards is no disaster - I guess it counts as regular throw, only the screen doesn't move along. You just need to wait for your plane to land. I even got money for it (and unknowingly collected thirty something stars).
But most importantly: the ACHIEVEMENTS do NOT WORK for me, even though I'm pretty sure all the requirements are met (at least for those basic ones) and - as I can see from other comments - it's not just me.
That's a major flaw on otherwise solid game.
The graphics are pretty good; except the map. But other than that, i don't think it's such a precious gem of gaming. Nearly all of the 'clicks' were either completely random, or possible to solve only trough trial and error. The greek mythology got pretty butchered as well - it's not much more than a raw mix of five or six most famous stories. Also: I'm pretty sure that gameplay to advertisement length ratio of 50% percent won't thrill many a player...
I like the game in terms of concept and such, but what really ruins for me is the gameplay - the tedious clicking. Why do we need a whole phase dedicated just to confirming our actions and then have to click one button more to actually see the turn go. Other than that, nice game...
So i saw d_swabey's comment somewhere at the top, and as i read it, I completely agreed. Right after that I refreshed my memory on the other 4 EW titles (trough a little playing of course) and There is definitely great deal of artistic improvement going on, no doubt. That being said the EW5 game does look a lot unfinished. I'm talking about the pixelated subbosses made by blowing up the regular beasts, about the inconvenient formation menu and the not-really-fitting-into-style yellow font.
A game that makes me want to play old 'Scorched Earth' instead of self and does so even before tutorial ends must be wrong on some fundamental level. Or I just don't like it...
It seems like 'Shock and awe' ship can cause a little bug: you can zap an enemy ship away from the battlefield/circle and it seems meaning you can't shoot them down. They fly back in eventually, but it takes a lot of time.
The hotkeys help a lot.
