I like the screen-shifting mechanic. Having to hold a run button to jump further is something I never liked though. The graphics are adorable and I love the little details around the levels. You really know how to make a platformer look good and the resolution's too tiny to appreciate it fully. It looks well at 150-200% zoom, but I think it would benefit from a higher base resolution so players don't have to zoom the website around it.
Thanks for the very useful feedback! You're totally right about annoying need to hold a run button. That's why I added always run mode few days ago. You can turn it on in options menu. Nymphiad's base resolution is 640x360. Since it's a pixel art game it looks good only when frame is scaled up by an integer. I personally think that optimal frame size is 2x, i.e. 1280x720. But Kongregate rules forbid to make frame wider than 800 px. So I added fullscreen mode in options menu. I know that it's not the best solution and I can make frame size 800x450. But in this case my pixel art will look distorted and I don't want that to happen.
Cool little game. Not too hard but not unfair. I like that it focuses on the puzzle instead of the platforming elements, which is more of a rarity than it should. This kind of color palette might make distinguishing parts of the level a bit difficult for even slightly colorblind people. I don't think it quite affects this game, but please keep that in mind in your future projects and maybe add an option to apply patterns to the shapes. :3
Since someone asked - the 9 special levels are accessible by clicking the three yellow hexagons around the map (they appear after you beat enough normal levels I think). One is at the very bottom, one near levels 22 and one near level 42.
I realized you can use the blue possibility markers at my second to last special level because I was looking for them. As far as I saw, the game was keeping them secret from players. :p Maybe mention that somewhere obvious, it's a nice tool for bigger puzzles where it's hard to memorize possibilities for all cells.
My way to go was high rate of fire, pierce, shockwave active, health after losing all shield, CD reducing drops, shield after using active and time freeze. I recommend blocking enemy bullets with your own as well. Laser/omni bullets may make the game lag a bit so be mindful of that. :3 The game starts off slow (at least for me it did) but once you get some pix upgrades and start quickly getting through the first levels for upgrades it gets much easier. :D
I hate the last part of level 14 very much. Too pixel-perfect compared to the rest of normal levels. The rest is solid and the combined mechanics are a fun and unique mix.
I really dont get why the game goes for double one point instead of regular 2 when I have 2 points remaining to win. Is that some darts rule or is that on the AI?
This was scary for a while, but potions really saved me when it was down to the wire just before I could afford the first push back upgrade. I love what you've done with this game. :D
Honestly, this dev is starting to get a reputation with me. After playing his previous game, the main thing they both had in common is the tedious grind. The previous one at least involved strategy. This is not a good direction for your ideas to go. There's some graphic/story design that looks very promising, but the plot and mechanics still need work.
I'm super curious what's gonna happen when the only thing I carry over from this part of the story is the "embodiment of fear". Looking forward to more. The game is delightful both in graphics and writing. :3
