4 consec daily challenges. Level 19 ranger. Max HP. Max range. +5 longbow. +5 Dex ring. Every kind of wand and scroll imaginable. After some wounds on the last level walks into a fire pot and dies. Sigh.
Well the game was weird, but I'm not so sure is managed to accomplish much with its weirdness. You don't get much by the end other than the idea that kids are carefully controlled, and aren't allowed to question the systems controlling their lives. There's truth there, but I hoped for a little more.
For all classes except fighter, spend most of your early skill points on fortitude. Mages should spend some on focus. Don't worry about the damage dealing skills until later. Save money for a skill trainer, then you can max your damage skill out that way.
If you don't have anything else to wish for, wish for potions. Odds are very good you'll get healing or energy potions which you can use to improve your hp/mana. Sometimes you'll get levitation potions though, and that sucks.
Avoid the arcane tower unless you have a powerful character with a ranged attack. The sewer is much much easier.
The best charms are blink an healing, and the best god is the healing god. Sell extra items that won't save you in a pinch, and save your money for the skill trainer. Occasionally it's best to buy stuff from the merchant, but it's always overpriced.
Warrior: best HP, but lacks powerful talents. Search for tomes to fill out the character. Barbarian: challenging class. Get strafe and prioritize a ranged weapon-- use a wish for a staff. Focus on HP, and strafe to victory. Rogue: get your stealth up and get a good weapon. You can sleep dart and one-shot most monsters. Ranger: Easy-- just strafe around a lot. Fire Mage: level up fireball and get firebolt. Flaming hands is bad. Focus on your HP, and try to get another spell, like freeze or confusion from a book. Storm Mage: get shock. Thunderclap is bad. Focus on HP and try to get an external spell. Levitation is worth it. Ice Mage: cone of cold is weaker than others, but freezing cloud and freeze are great. Don't worry about ice armor until late. Necromancer: easy-- just focus on mana and use skeletons. Enchanter: easy. Level up confusion. Fear isn't needed. Charm is, but you don't need to level it up. and swiftness is great if you remember to use it.
Strafe is best talent.
@Artemis_Fowl_2nd I know what the staff does, but I still feel it's the weakest one. I've beaten the game multiple times with every class, and I've found Ice Mage to be the weakest, but you may disagree.
@CheesyMoo there is one huge advantage to barbarians: strafe attack. Basically get strafe at level 4 and strafe around your opponents' attacks. Having a ranged weapon is really helpful too.
Druid: 11Str, 11Dex, 11Int, Starts with shortspear (low damage spear)
Starting talent: Summon Animal Companion (Cooldown 40. Only 1 at a time.)
Unique talents: Birdform (Req lvl 1. 4 mana, Sustained effect. Fast and flying, but low damage, and can't use other spells).
Entangling Vines (Req lvl 4. 4 mana, summons diamond shape of vines that constrict enemies, and eventually turn to normal vines.)
Beastform (Req lvl 8. 8 mana sustained. Improved damage, armor, regen, and mp regen. Also trample and hits cause occasional stun. Can't move diagonally or cast other spells.)
Other talents: Evasive (req lvl 1), Fortitude (req lvl 1), and Keen Hearing (req lvl 4).
It sucks that when you use a scroll of teleport to flee for your life, everyone magically still knows where you are, even if you teleport to an empty room.
Never even thought of that, thanks! They really should forget about you when you teleport. It will at least give you an extra turn when you've displeased the RNGod and he teleports you 2 tiles to the left.
Just wanted to second this and point out that evasion is also incredibly powerful atm. Since enemy accuracy currently never improves, its one of the few defensive stats you can get that actually maintains its power across the game. A 20% chance to dodge remains a 20% chance to dodge on dungeon level 16, wheres the damage mitigation from say 5 protection, quickly loses its 'power' as enemy attack damage increases.
Hobbit challenge: Play a rogue. You can't do anything to increase your HP (no health items, no strength, no health potion increase etc.) and you can't wear any shoes or boots.
Barbarian is definitely the hardest class. Spend everything on getting more HP. Get sprint at level 2 and strafe attack at level 4. Try to get a ranged weapon to help with strafing. Rely on consumable items. Scrolls are what makes the last few levels easy.
"Your level 17 Barbarian fell to his death." Oh. I thought I could survive jumping in a pit. Whoops. I was definitely having freezes on my cooldown time. It wouldn't move for a long time, then it would start counting down again.
It's a cool game, but it's basically just a grind until your numbers beat the computer's numbers. The main reason to keep playing is to see what monster comes next.
Great game. I love the modular the classes, with findable books and weapons. It's a hard game (barbarian is hardest), but it's rewarding. When I'm leveling up a damage skill, I'd like to see when the base damage will increase by one. The percentage boost is useful for damaging spells, but with base damage, the numbers are so small that we'd have to get a calculator to see when the decimal is going to cross the line.
