Nice relaxing game. I appreciate the very mellow background music without any jarring sound effects. Finished all the levels quickly and there's not a lot of motivation to re-play so it feels more like a demo for a game than a complete game. Nice idea though.
I'd like a way to "lock down" the selections I'm confident in. In Picma Squared there are certain boxes that you know must be a certain color...and others that require a little more playing around with. When I'm shifting things around, I keep accidentally changing boxes that I had already figured out. :-(
I don't feel there is enough color contrast between completed tiles and tiles that still need to be matched. Games like this result in unnecessary eyestrain if there isn't good contrast. (The blue and purple gems also seem a bit too similar.)
The interface on this game is very clunky. (The answer blank would vanish on me randomly and not allow me to enter an answer.) And there doesn't seem to be any motivation to "play" as a game since there doesn't seem to be any goal or tracking of how well you've done overall. I tutor young children in math and have been looking for something they might enjoy doing for practice, but this won't hold their attention.
I really like this style of puzzle, but I find the lack of color-contrast very frustrating. Gray numbers with white backlighting? I can only play one puzzle a day as my eyes hurt from all the squinting by the time I solve it.
The mute button being buried until several levels in is frustrating. I like to listen to my own music when I'm playing games. (For the same reason, I also prefer when games given an option to mute music independently from the sound effects.) Otherwise it's a fun classic puzzle game.
I agree that there ought to be an "align to grid" option if the pieces are going to be so tightly wedged together. The fun part is solving the puzzle. It's not fun when you can see the solution, but have to waste time struggling to get the pieces to line up with incredible precision to make it work.
Good game if you're looking for something you can finish in a day. Not particularly challenging. (I was using Elves and Taxmen exclusively at the end.) I was able to skip to "Hard" mode without needing to beat the "Normal' first. I'm used to have to work a bit harder to finish the final stages of a game. My only real complaint is that I didn't like the way the screen moved. When you click on a unit to move it, it's too easy to drag the background instead of the unit, which is annoying.
I'd rate 5/5 for the music puzzles, but the hidden-object part of the game is frustrating. (I've never liked those style of games, so to have a really awesome game buried behind a game I don't like is annoying.) I wish there were a "hint" option for finding the outlines because I want to be able to skip ahead to the fun part of the game without wasting so much time randomly clicking all over the place.
I never thought I'd be praising this style of game for the animation, but this was fabulous. The way Carl flails when he loses his balance is worth 5 stars right there. :-)
The timer is harsh on the final rounds. It's frustrating when you've got everything upgraded to max and you repeatedly lose a level on the timer alone. It's not fun when it just becomes a race to click as fast as possible.
