I love this game. It's got that Escape from Really Boring Island je ne sais quois with an added dash of animation. As someone in chat said while playing "You Rock Hard!"
Nice job with this Mossy. Too bad there's not room to give credit to all 7 of the people who gave you text corrections ;)...or was it 12? (and just in case you're in one of your moods when you think I'm being serious when I'm ribbing you about something, I'm not).
There's a lot that I like about this. The main recommendations I would make is that you add some color, darken the bullets, make a way to pause at least between levels.
I just love your games. You are taking the basics, making them better, and infusing them with lots of cool huzzahness. Thanks for the fun and inspiration.
I asked people in my chat room to check out my art and your game :D My summary of game chat comments: It's an interesting way to think about puzzles, needs better instructions as it was hard to figure out exactly what we were supposed to be doing (particularly that things have to be on your path to get eaten, there's a tendency to assume that you can eat things sideways, too), it could use more specials, and "with a bit of tweaking, I could waste a lot ot time playing this game."
I suck at pong! Where's super easy mode. I love the main track, kind of like Incredible String Band messing around but with different voices. It's amazing how you take basic games and make really cool versions of them.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I am so glad this game was the one chosen to also be featured. I am so glad that more people will see it. I still haven't won even on easy, though.
Upgrade points didn't seem to work consistently--when I had points, sometimes I would click and nothing would happen, other times they went to 0 so I assume the upgrade went through. it's kind of strange how there are two shop screens but you get to one by clicking on "shop" but the other only when you click on play and choose your mode. It's not clear what the circle with letters in them do both when you collect and buy them as upgrades. I think the game is a little hard early on so that you have to play a lot of time with little reward. That can work in a game (see Dino Run) but there has to be more reward at early levels, not just quick death.
I didn't get any missiles coming out when I pressed space--the only way I could do damage was to shield bash, but that doesn't work on the boss. Am I the only one not getting missiles?
Fairly nice, though not the best. Tons of games have gone high at first and then dropped from the top. It does not mean that anyone is doing something unfair. If a game is in the top 3 and lots of people don't think it deserves to be, there will naturally be a corrective downvoting. Your game has some nice aspects, but I don't see it as one of the 3 best. I could name about 15 games that went high and then dropped in rating.
There is a lot that's good about this game, but I agree about the tiny bullets. Also, the main background music is badly looped so that it stutters every 5 seconds when it comes round.
Your game idea is closest to the one I didn't get ready in time for the contest. It runs very oddly, and I didn't actually hear the music, but I'll check back again later. I like most of the art. It is hard to do anything with complicated lines in this amount of time.
The little things at the bottom of the screen are too small for me to read. You also may want to set your background to black instead of white (the background beyond your 300x600 gameplay area) if you don't like the white bar look.
Also, you've got a scrolling background issue--I'll whisper on your page about it. Nice game overall.
Now can you add a "can't shoot her way out of a tin can with a railgun and a truckload of dynamite" mode? I still haven't seen the end. Something to work for, I guess.
Svala, have you trialed CS3 and CS4? Your games aren't quite among my top favorites in the competition, but there's something I really like about them.
