This and its sequel are the worst games I've ever played on Kongregate. Were you beaten as a child and decided to get back at other kids by making these "5 minute skill" games?
One of, if not the worst, excuse for a "skill" game I have ever played. I'm not even attempting to get the medium or the hard badge. 30 minutes of my life I will never get back.
Interesting game, definitely fun, and easy to beat everything, I literally got up to mission 14 with just the rifleman and a spy. The only other unit I bought was the artillery so I could make taking out helicopters easier. Big game blunder for me is the horrible aiming system, and misleading text. The "long range" missiles don't have a longer range, I could kill helicopters and units from off the main screen with the rifleman with no fear of blowing myself up with the ridiculous range of missile damage. But that leads to another issue, most, if not all enemies have perfect pinpoint accuracy and will hit you unless you are moving, this makes aiming where you try to stay out of radar a pain because upon moving it centers back on your character, and if you stop moving, it starts to move the screen again. It's an infuriatingly stupid system. Almost as bad as the whole riflemen are better than missile launcher units because you can be aiming off screen with no fear of blowing myself up.
The game was a fun way to spend an hour for me. I liked the idea, I'm sad there wasn't much of a story, but it more than makes up for it in entertainment. Although there are some issues that I've noticed that many others have pointed out. I made it to floor 10 before I realized the overpowerdness that are the spells. Melee has an important role in the beginning, until you get money for spells, then you're practically given the victory after that. I noticed that you don't glide past obstacles in the room like you can when against a wall, and I found that very annoying. No mana bar = spell spam, and with every point into spell casting you can decrease the cool down, had I had 30 points instead of 10 in spell casting I could've probably beat the game in 20 minutes.
P.S. The skeleton minion is useless, takes several seconds to cast, doesn't follow very well, does little damage, gets in your way more than the enemies, and doesn't stop projectiles.
I have to agree with Nightwolf, this game has lots of potential, but is so poorly imbalanced in areas. It's unrealistic that the enemies can move so fast relative to your casting speed, the battle is 90% running. Airborne enemies can't be hit unless they drop low, they are faster and if they drop on you as you're running, game over, insta-lose. Instead of fixing the problems it seems more like they made regeneration extremely overpowered as a band-aid solution. You move at a moderate pace, have no surmountable defense, attack is meager, but if you can run for 7 seconds without getting hit, you are fully healed, makes the full health power up very redundant.
Such a shame, I'd love to be able to play this series seeing that there are so many good reviews about it. But sadly my computer seems to hate this game, crashes as soon as it starts.
Very fun, but whomever was in charge of naming the rooms needs to be fired. How hummingbirds and bees with flowers and trees on an island is related to the Devil's Kitchen is beyond me.
So I finally took the time to get to level 15, and I beat the boss with a level 19 commando as he is rather easy. Not only did I not get the badge, now the boss has increased considerably in damage to the point where a head shot instantly kills me. So much wasted effort...
Loved the optional ending that also tied things together with the first game. You have no idea how happy I am that the clown poster didn't turn into a demonic hell spawn clown that you had to meet. I hate clowns enough as it is.
Maybe I'm just a naturally violent person, but after you talk to the person in hiding and find out about Felicity my first instinct when she appeared was to stab her with my new found screwdriver.
This was very entertaining. When I took the pickaxe and "it" appeared I click backed to the door and started closing it while repeating "nopenopenopenopenopenope."
