Bear, if only things were that simple... ;)
Iowa has its uses but tends to become less and less used when you get matched up with higher players. When I first started playing, I remember 50-60 minute long games using back and forth Iowa. More recently, it's been like 15 minute games with SAMs and castles until someone breaks through with flamethrower. ^ ^
P.S. I played the game so much that I kept tossing and turning in my sleep last night and couldn't get the mini-map out of my head (where the jets fly from the Iowa). That kind of sucked... but my fault for getting involved in an hour-long attrition battle with someone on the map that has opposing hills, the valley, and like four slow patches in between~
I've been playing this nonstop for the past three days, and it's actually a lot of fun, which is why I'm a little confused by all the hate directed by the commentators here. ^ ^
Yes, the Iowa is a great weapon, but it's probably not overpowered since it can't really kill dinos and it costs a lot to buy (not use). It's an exaggerated weapon (which makes it funny), but it's available to both sides, and it's not the case where you use it to the exclusion of all others.
The strategy element is mostly money management... you can make someone waste a ton of money if you skirt around their peripheral and/or economize by being a good shot with the SAM.
The only thing I don't really like is the Kred system directly affecting gameplay, but it's reasonable for someone who lets people play the game for free to have something like this implemented.
Keep up the good work! =)
This is a great game for second year med students.
Of course, the MS2 audience is pretty niche... and unlike me they probably don't spend a lot of time playing flash games in lecture. ^ ^
