It is pretty outrageous that a character murders two security guards and attempts to murder several more people, and the game gives her a sympathetic sendoff. There's a lesson in that: when people treat co-workers like real people, but non-coworkers (rarely visiting CEOs, anonymous security guards, etc) like nonpersons, look there for your murderer.
"Error: Failed to load audio sword2.m4a" While this game's ideas are solid, and some of its graphics are surprisingly good, the execution is clunky. Many of the minigames depend on proper timing, and when the game itself is laggy or contain errors, such minigames are no longer fun. I would suggest that before you release such a game you make sure it works across platforms and in different browsers.
A fun little RPG, mechanically comparable to early final fantasy games in terms of manipulating the initiative order. The main problem is that due to the lack of variety at the endgame, you basically wind up spamming the same moves over and over. The developer has mentioned the difficulties in balancing diverse status effects, and I agree that it can be a challenge, but it is worth doing. As it is, there isn't much replay value because of the one-dimensional gameplay.
Just a note, the 500hp skeletons ARE defeatable - you need one of the weapons with 30+ damage, and you need to have trained up your Combat Defense to 100. With that, and a high Dexterity, they will miss often enough that you will be able to kill them. Constitution also helps somewhat - if you have over 150 hp you can take quite a few hits - but the critical thing is high Dexterity to cause misses. (You can get Dex by training Strategy a lot.)
Another game with the restart mechanic. Difficulty really needs to come from something other than "make a mistake and we'll make you do everything all over again."
While the faction system of this game is neat, the zero sum nature of the interactions is really a flaw. It should be possible to avoid taking sides definitively, and still advance the plot.
Tip for players who intend to make it to high levels - if at all possible, DO NOT log out! Quests disappear randomly while you are logged out and you can't get them back. While it's not a big deal for the quests that just give exp, a few give skill points and you won't be able to compete with those players who have completed all the quests and gotten all the bonus skill points. This is the No. 1 bug that makes paying money for Aetheron dubious.
It's a big problem not being able to play this on Kong and get badges. Right now the game forwards you to its site and just plays honky-tonk music in the background.
Crafting tips for souls: Spider (+3% to all colored stats) Rhino (-10% requirements, and this affects level even though sometimes that doesn't show) Dino (+3 vit) Deathdealer (+5% spell damage) Cyclops (+3 will) Trayl (+3 dex). These +3s go up to +5s for more powerful items (and cost more, but by then cash is no issue.)
The Mage is heavily end-loaded: by the time you hit level 50, assuming you've been concentrating on int/will while getting +element gear and enough dex to not miss, your meteors will kill everything on the screen. Even elites can't stand up to a full rotation of all your skills, and die without touching you. For everything above elite, just equip +10% move speed and include cold rays in your rotation, and run around them. With at least 10% health and mana leech, you will also continually be full on health and mana. However, the achievements pretty much go only up to level 30. Basically this game needs an endgame that differs from midgame.
Damn it trainer's husband, stop sleeping! I'll even give you wine, just come with me to the stable so your wife can scold you and I can get my ride back!
To play against another army - go to BOUNTIES and then load the army you want, then click on the PLANET corresponding to highest difficulty 9. It is a little awkward but it does work.
Buggy, which detracts from the game. The fight music gets very repetitive, especially after you've hit max level and keep encountering monsters every five steps which only slow you down. The lever won't activate for me, even after the bell has been rung and the NPC says it's the only task left. Every so often snowbirds get stuck summoning other snowbirds. This is definitely a medium badge for time and repetition involved.
The bruiser/princess fight around level 5 or so isn't as complicated as people make it out to be. Notice that he goes berserk after she dies. This causes him to use "Mortal Wound" (which will 1-shot if you're not at full hp) at a much higher rate. Thus, if you are playing classes without ress, and limited to 3 ress potions, you should wait to kill her until you have him under half health. Obviously you can still get a run of stun, stun, swift strike, mortal wound, and die without being able to do anything about it, but that's just bad luck. FYI: the Paladin has ress. It's highly recommended.
On the plus side, there are some decent anime/manga styled pictures, easily wallpaper quality if they were bigger. On the minus side, the "stars" you are hunting for are better described as "small visual distortions that may or may not bear any resemblance to actual stars." There's also not much in the way of reward for completing a level.
Mana Chronicles has a great idea, good graphics for a flash game, and good music. Unfortunately the English in the story and dialogue wouldn't pass proofreading by an eight-year-old. The end result is either comical or tragic. We already know that games benefit from skilled artists as well as skilled programmers. Here we see that they benefit from good writers (or suffer from their absence.) If the creator is not a native speaker of English, he or she should have gotten help with the writing.
