The pricing for the potions and scrolls is ridiculous. Heal 1/3 of everyone's HP for 50 gold, but 2/3 for 200? Gee, I wonder which is more cost effective... Or, if I were crazy, I could buy a potion that only heals my own character fully for 900 gold.
For a game from 2007 though, it's pretty neat. Nice concept and all. Really shows how far we've come in flash games, though. Six years can do a lot.
...Wow.
Not only is this demo a pretty good representation of what you'd get in the game, and not only does it really well support moving the save file onto the full version, but the developer is extremely helpful and attentive to what people have to say.
I actually may have bought the game and played it for 30 hours (plenty more to come) without ever having played this demo, but still, my point stands. Extremely nice game.
Went into the impossible badge expecting 50 battles... but there were 51.
For the record, battles 49 and 50 are a lot easier than 51. I advise saving all the specials for that one (which I didn't do, and only narrowly made it through).
Haha. I can see that most people who play this game dislike it purely out of difficulty. Which might indicate a need to do something about this in future games...
A lot of it comes from the weird physics, of course. The character is either moving up at a high speed or down at a high speed - it's incredibly hard to keep it stable either way. And when most of the game consists of vertically narrow passageways... ouch. Also, the fact that the spikes have a square hitbox means hitting them from the sides far too often, or getting hit on them from a few pixels away. I'd also suggest adding a bit more room to click for grappling, as I clicked outside the window several times (and I was so close D:). The links on the top of the screen don't help either...
Mushbits was a fantastic little series! Try to take inspiration from those, or something! :D
The acronyms are really inconsistent. COD4, LBP, TMNT, but not SMW2, SMB3, SMG for example? Do you have something against Mario acronyms? :(
Also, "Maniac Mansion 2" doesn't work, but "Day of the Tentacle" does. :/
Oh, one other thing... In Endless Mode, my character tends to go entirely off-screen because there are so many enemies. But it's more of a goofy fun thing than anything. :P
I feel like it would be a lot more fun and a lot less frustrating if the player got a bit more control over the game than just movement. See what you can do in that front. =D
Heck, even being able to hold out a shield to take less damage but get no experience, or something... Right now it's more of an exercise of one's patience as they hope to get enough healing items, etc. at the right time.
Stolen, stolen, and stolen...
Really though, Louissi (Louis-Simon Ménard) made this game, very clearly, and he has a Kongregate account that has the first game on it. I highly doubt this person was given permission to upload Age of War 2, especially considering the description of "Game Created by MaxGames"... yeah.
To be honest, this game really does not deserve a 4.2 rating. I mean, it's decent, but there's not that much to it, and the humor is rather immature and repetitive.
But, I suppose, to each their own.
The game itself is really kind of addictive too. My favorite part has to be the voice clips for making chains/combos. That is, OH YEAH. and of course ROCK AND ROLL!!!! Such deep voices. Gotta love 'em. This game is so manly. ...I'm bad at making really, really big combos, are there any other voice clips than ROCK AND ROLL?
Really, really enjoying the style of this game so far! Sometimes enemies glitch through walls and do crazy stuff, but that's not too common, and I really, really love not only the ideas of the game but the wonderful presentation and execution!
This game is fairly well designed, but there are a lot of balance issues (Attack is by far the best stat to raise early on, Magic is useless then). Also, you can't deny that it gets rather repetitive, especially with the MASSIVE health bars on the bosses.
Another neat design aspect was how the girl's health also affects how close she is to her nightmare, which not only logically makes sense, but makes it a bit easier for struggling players to see what's coming and avoid further knockback.
Glad you like the game :D Rock and ROLL!
