Looks ok, but just too easy and the levels feel unbalanced. For instance, it took me some time to get through level 8 (since it does require some skill) and then went through another bunch of levels with no problem at all. You could try to re-arrange the order of some of them.
I'll also join the crowd and say: really cool concept, very original as well! But I find it hard to give any extra ideas (rather than "be careful to not make a game that's just trial and error") since it's in a primary stage. Keep working on it :)
Fun game. Nice to see that you've added a crucial thing for any TD games, yet most developers don't use: give the user the ability to choose which enemy the tower will focus its attacks. Kudos for that!
Controls are a bit confusing. WASD for movement and numbers for casting spells? Doesn't work really well. Fortunatelly buttons can be re-assigned but... you still need to use mouse to face the right direction. WHY? So I have two hands and three places to control (WASD/Arrows + Numbers + Mouse). Doesn't seem right to me!
An easy and effective way is to make the character controlable by arrows/WASD and use the mouse button to cast the spells.
Now, THIS is the kind of Nerdook game I like: easy to pick up and play, easy to beat, not TOO short, but short enough to not become repetitive and yet there're lots of replay value since there're a lot of upgrades to buy.
It's also always nice to see how you can implement things and elements you used previously and make different things out of them. Congrats!
(although I just wish you could have more upgrade slots, since there're soooo many things, four slots are too few)
I really think you should make the game a bit easier; lower enemies HP and increase the reward after each battle. There's a difference between a challenging game and a hard (and frustrating) one... other than that, it's a well done game, with nice music, sound FX, graphics and animation.
I really LOVED the concept of the game. Puzzle + RPG + TD = utter goodness. Right? Kind of. Since you have to do *OMG_EVERYTHING_AT_ONCE* it does get a little confusing for the slow-minded-people (such as myself) :) I've read the comment where you said it was intentional the game having this pace because some people feel bored on traditional TD games. One thing you could do (perhaps not on this game but on a sequel or similar one) is letting people choose whether they want to do all-at-once or taking turns (resource gathering and then the TD part). Like on some RPGs, like Final Fantasy, where you can choose between Active Battle or Wait. That should help everyone!
It's hard to say it's an improvement over the first one since it's a completely different game. That said, it's one of the most enjoyable games on Kong and one of the very few I've rated 5/5. This game is simple without being simplistic and shallow, it's challenging withoug being frustrating and takes sometime to do everything without ever feeling tiresome or boring.
You've nailed it, sir!
Some small changes could improve greatly this game: 1) Yes, coin-magnet upgrade! 2) Make the coins last longer on the screen (or even don't disappearing at all!) 3) Hotkeys!. Also I think that the levels are somewhat unbalanced. You can go through some of them really easy and then you get stuck on one level till you make many upgrades (and that goes for some grinding, which makes the game repetitive). Once you beat that level, you go easily through others, till grinding is again necessary....
This is one of the very few games I've rated 5/5. BUT after seeing the Altered Beast reference... sir... I want to give this game 6/5 stars! Really! You trully deserve it!
The bug I'd found is worse than I thought: after I beat the 3rd boss and got stuck (because I hadn't picked the quest first), I've reloaded the game and, then, picked up the quest. When I went back to the dungeon those orbs (oddly!) were already activated. BUT the door that leads to the boss is shut... I also tried dumping the quest and getting it again. Not worked. Sooo... I pretty much have to restart the game from scratch. Too bad for me.
Found a bug: I've killed the 3rd boss without getting the quest first. So, after I've killed him, the portal didn't appear so I got stuck inside the cave.
No offense, Rudy, but since I simply LOVE your games and I know what you're capable of, I must say that this game feel rather unfinished (or simply rushed).
Controls while not bad, could be better comparing to other games of this kind. The music is uninspiring and repetitive.. And I have no indication of whehter/when/why I'll level up, nor I have any idea if there's any difference between the insects. Can be very improved.
My biggest question is: what the hell do you watch, listen, read, eat, drink and/or sniff to come up with all those original games' ideas? (yes, it IS a compliment. In an unique fashion :p)
In the first games in the series that was one thing that was asked for over and over again. Had to make sure it was in this version.
