For those of you who say its too short, maybe read the description before blabbering about stuff like that. He said, "The game is so large that i split it into episodes" so therefore, i guess he'll figure a way to implement data from earlier episodes into episode 2 and on? You cant upload games over a certain amount of file size, and this has so many great additions, its hard to compress it into the maximum filesize allowed. + so others can see.
I noticed a glitch in combat. If you stand in a formation like so,
[X]
[X] [X]
[O]
Where X = Enemies and O = your character, and there being a gap in the middle, none of their team will attack you. They will continuously skip turns until you move or another teammate steps in.
I beat everything except for the final boss of ZG. My strategy of Polymorph, shield, energy up, then pyroblast, repeat doesnt work on this one, since he one hits me O_O. Managed to beat the rest of ZG at level 14, though.
You realize that 127.0.0.1 is your local ip. If your not hosting a server, you cant connect to yourself. If there is a main server, i recommend setting the server ip to that one.
Looking MUCH better! I see your getting started with upgrades, different levels, powerups, etc. Dont forget to add a description to your upgrades, im not sure what "Drain" does. Also, make sure to be able to make money, instead of just starting with 25000.
Keep me posted, and keep up the good work!
Looks pretty good so far. Just make sure that if you are going to have a sort of pixelly type game, make sure EVERYTHING lives up to that genre, otherwise it seems off. Like the Kongreate symbols appear to be more HQ than the rest of the game. Also, I would tone down the power of the flippers. I can manage to repeatedly hit the top with one hit, or land the ball back into the launch thingy. Also, dont forget to animate things accordingly! I realize its a test, so i understand if you haven't included those things yet. For now, ill give you a 4/5, since its a test.
I agree with LordVile7. I also believe that if you want it to be a true arcade style shooter, it would make it even better to make it 8-bit! You know, stars would be pixels, your ship would be a blocky triangle, etc. That would make it cooler! Oh, and 8bit music! Also, if you really want to improve the scenery in your game, make repeating layers for the backround, instead of just 1 looping layer. So for instance, the first backround layer would have stars that move about as fast as they do now. The backround underneath that would have smaller stars that would seem to move quite a bit slower. The third layer underneath those two would be teeny little stars that move VERY slow. This way it gives you a sense of depth. Just a suggestion.
11. Just keep coding and modeling, and basically do trial and error. if you put full effort into this game, you will learn to do certain things as you progress, and it will always make you a better programmer, no matter how good you already are!
Thanks for taking your time to read this, and I understand if you don't add a lot of the more complicated features listed. I am a java programmer myself, and although its not near the same, I know that designing any game is a pain in the behind. So keep at it, and I look forward to what you make of this game!
10. Upgrades! Games tend to suck you in more if you include things to work for. Maybe you get experience points for completing a level (Base experience earned), then give bonus XP for however much time is remaining on a level, fuel remaining, or if you managed to complete it with maximum HP. When you reach a certain xp amount, which will change depending on your level, you will gain upgrade points, which you can spend in an upgrade menu.
Ideas for possible upgrades, if implemented: Total fuel, engine (would make you go faster), treads, armor (Your HP, basically), or special enhancements, like a lighter tank, so you would fall slower, thus reducing damage from falling. Most upgrades can be upgraded more than once, and each upgrade costs more credits.
6. Instructions IN-game. A lot of people are too lazy to scroll down to the instructions area on the page.
7. Add checkpoints, obstacles, traps, and other goodies. (Maybe enemies that shoot at you, mines that blow you into the air, and cause damage, speed boosters, etc.
8. Powerups, maybe? (Rocket Burst: Rocket has more force, but consumes the same amount of fuel. Unlimited Fuel: Temporarily grants unlimited fuel. Sticky Treads: Sticks you to the track, with a release button., etc.)
9. An options menu, where you can include some options i listed above.
Although not much is happening here, i believe this game has potential. I have a few suggestions:
1. Fix the speed (it glitches between 16 and 17), and add "MPH" next to it, if that's what your measuring.
2. More levels, of course.
3. Tanks are heavy. This thing falls like a feather, and the game feels very "Low Gravity-like."
4. Tank health? Falling from a distance can cause some serious damage, even if it is a tank.
5. Mute button, and Quality button.
To get the "Planet Crusher" Challenge, Go as far up as possible (I recommend using Omega upgrades, and use your boosters), then go straight down, trying to gain as much speed as possible. I was somewhere around an altitude of 900 feet, and going down about 1K MPH when I earned this. Press + So others can see!
i REALLY liked this game. maybe if you change the music a bit, and some levels are a little tricky while some are a little too easy. however, i liked it and can't wait for the full version. 5/5
