Seems late, but you can't use your purchased powers until you get to the point where you can select them. I bought killer spikes before I had enough spells to need to select which ones I wanted to use before hand, and I couldn't use it until I reached that point.
I love the game, very much. The new rating for a gold star makes it even more challenging. The only problem I've had is that you need to be pretty exact on some things. Would it be possible to make it so that if you're like, one tool short on the gold but you have extras on the other it'd be fine? I did no loot bags with 4 gates left over, but was short the gold because I'd end up with one block if I wanted to get in the bonus room.
This was absolutely a design consideration. Episode 2, in its original form, worked similar to episode 1. The player was only given enough tools to complete each room. Adding in extra tools was done to create many more possible solutions, which in turn, makes it easier to solve a room. A gold star is more challenging because there is only 1 solution, maybe 2 if you discover a platinum solution.
I can't seem to get the "Loser" achievement. I tried dying by drowning, nothing. I tried death by lightning, nothing. Death by plant, nothing. The one that I can't really do is death by monster, and that's because I kill them without fail, even if I'm not jumping/spinning or anything. Why make it so hard to properly kill yourself?
I can't figure out how to get "The Loser" achievement to trigger. I keep dying before getting 10000 points, but I don't get it. Do creatures have to do it or what?
Landed on a small rock in mid air and kept running on it in midair for about 15 seconds. It was pretty epic but it didn't give me any boulder ride points.
