Not bad game, but I think the balance is a little off. Took me 5+ tries to beat Act 2, but I beat Act 3 on the first go round. I would also like it if the weapons, armor and such where a little less random. It can make the game extremely difficult if you get bad luck on the drops which in turns makes the game grindy while you wait for the perfect setup.
Did the game balance get changed? Prior to the badges, two throwers and a bruiser simply owned. But I lost my save and had to redo the game, and now find that I can barely win with the same setup. Strange.
The game adds time to the AI players if you press END NOW, but it is impossible to calculate this accurately (the physics simulation takes time). Good advice! :)
Ok, I thought of something that would really make the game a lot more fun - auto-placement. If you shift+click to drop a block, all further further blocks of that type will automatically drop at the same location until you shift+click a new location or alt+click to cancel it. I think that option allow would make this a 5/5 game for me.
Like other people have commented I think this game has potential but misses the mark. It's not very fun due to the fact that micromanaging the blocks is frustrating and tedious. Additionally, I think it's too difficult. I'm not sure what strategy I can use that will help me defeat the large swarms of flying explosive drones. My weapon range isn't very good and I get overrun pretty easily.
First of all good game - 5/5. But I will say that there's two things that really bugged me:
1) The crafting system is horrible. Once you get into the higher level items it takes forever to upgrade items one at a item and it's annoying. Why even bother to break the mats into three levels when you can switch between them? If the game automatic constructed all items you need if you had the materials, it would be a lot more fun.
2) The ending is a giant disappointment. I'm not saying there was much of a story, but the game did hint at some things (which I won't mention due to spoilers) and never delivered.
I think the game would be a lot more fun if I could control the output of the Dibbles and if there was a rewind option. So if I make a mistake, I can just reverse one or more moves instead of redoing the level again and again as I experiment.
The game is cool, but the platforming is a little sloppy. I'm not sure if it's intentionally trying to drive me crazy with loose controls. Maybe it's toying with me psychologically. 4/5
Word of advice - DO NOT UPGRADE PARATROOPAH! Not until you can afford Rump Roast (75K and unlocks much later). It will actually make the game substantially harder.
I like the style of the game, but terraforming is a time intensive nuisance. You have to click one change at a time and the cursor jumps around on you. Why not add terraform option that allows you to cover a wide area at once? For example, click on any one point, hold down the button and drag out to another point. The entire area gets raised or lowered to match the height of the first point clicked. Populous didn't do that either, but it's something I wish it had. 4/5, but I'd give it a 5/5 with a better terraform option.
Congratulations! You've managed to take a game from my childhood that I've never liked and made me play it over again in new and more annoying ways! I still don't like it by the way, but I'm addicted to unlocking things. 4/5
Good game, but I think the drop rate for Gold Bullion needs to be increased. To anyone interested, you can farm bullion fairly easily by buying a three weapon slot ship with all homing missiles and doing survival mode. Just park on the bottom, let the homing missiles do all the work and walk away. I got about 30 bullion in less than an hour doing that.
The volume control does work in this game. You can mute/unmute, but the volume slider for Sound and Music does nothing. I'm using Chrome if it matters.
Wall jumping is frustrating. This is suppose to be an improvement? I glad I didn't play it before then. I rage quit on the level you first get the wall jump.
