I found the game very good (5/5). With a little extra effort it can become really great. So, if the developers are reading this, here are some suggestions to make the game more interesting:
- rangers are too powerful - three poisoned Hail of Arrows will kill half a boss gang in any floor and I saw they kill the whole gang more than once. And after the hail the rangers still have enough points left for Pierces or Prowess.
- The equipment is sometimes too good too - I found some hardware I could use for ten levels.
- The "go up" trick in practice gives you a third altar - it should have some drawback attached (new mobs when you came back, for instance).
- On the top of the excess altars, you end up with so many different potions (almost a hundred of each basic kind plus tens of all others) that after level 30 the altar are irrelevant.
- Equipment management is very, very boring on the higher levels.
- Maybe the enemies also need more skills and more intelligence.
This game is seriously unbalanced after the Corrupter (the hard badge). When you get that (take off all damage reflection equipment and you're on the way), the impossible badge is just a matter of patience, not skill. Nothing bellow that can beat an all endurance cleric backed by three all dex rangers - I sailed from the Corrupter to level 50 without much thinking. The only point is painfully upgrading the equipment to give the rangers all poison and quickness you can get (and more dex, where available) while turning the cleric into an unpassable wall of armour (he doesn't even have to fight much - most of the time he is stunned or healing or casting holy light). I think mages can easily do the trick too.
I have to agree with hitorikii on level 3 Adventure - it's not very well-designed. I don't care for random pits, but no bombs or even planes when all you can do is wait is very annoying. Even so, I had a 4/5 amount of fun...
Medium can be won with darts and cannons. Hard needs darts (to start with) then cannons and boomerangs.
Two tips: always buy the left side upgrade, never buy the right side upgrade. Also, as in the first version, keep those monkeys well-packed to concentrated fire as much as possible.
On hard, make the groups cover for each other misses and be always prepared to buy spikes, specially during the early yellow levels and the black levels.
