Mojo (and/or a custom character with a good melee weapon) is amazing. Basically, buff him until he's got ridiculous damage, then watch him sweep everything getting two attacks pretty much every round. Most of the time, he one-hits regular enemies, almost certainly two hits, and can usually two hit "big" enemies. Jump in to quickly kill a border-enemy, and then jump back to stay out of damage, or just weave through the fray slaughtering everything. It's pretty boss. I like two shadows and a Healer, personally.
Beat each level on hard first try with the following strategy:
1. Buy two tax collectors and start dragging them back and forth to towns, greatly expediting money gain.
2. Buy two more tax collectors and continue this money gain strategy.
3. Start producing archers once you hit about 3k gold, until you have a small army. Drag them backwards/forwards to make a highly concentrated blob.
4. Bless said archers (twice, if needed) against the oncoming wave of monsters. Watch them destroy.
5. Continue watching them mow through enemies. Support them with a healer or two, and in tight situations Lightning Storm and Bless.
6. Against bosses, throw in a paladin to tank and blast away with Lightning.
Upgrades Went Archer Damage -> Wizard Tower -> Blessx2 -> Curse -> Storm, and then I just upgraded Damage, Bless or Storm (and Lightning once). Didn't seem to matter since I was crushing every battle.
I found the story and concept interesting, but the combat mechanic was a bit weak. The lines are too small to aim at a flat side, ensuring safe attack, and debris clutters the battlefield, waiting for you to dash and impale yourself. The fact that your allies cloud around you and are killed by a single hit also makes battle frustrating. If your were to do some sort of sequel, I would recommend no friendly fire, disintigrating debris, allowing a sort of turning or side dashing so you can aim better and zooming in on the stage. The turning or side dashing would make the game either heavily reaction based, making you dodge and weave, or make it a bit like chicken combined with reaction - the first to act is often the loser.
It'd be nice to have the option simply to skip (possibly forfeiting highscores), as I'm now stuck without a way to find out the answer to that darned sound.
DANG. This game is awesome! After cardinal quest 1 I was expecting better but... this is vastly improved. Only complaint I have is that moving between areas has a long lag in a blank screen. I really like the sense of a goal to strive towards (bosses, that next upgrade, ect) and the enemies and boss fight are more interesting and engaging than before. I think a couple more levels, a boss-trial thing (where you fight all the bosses in succession) and maybe an endless mode would really complete the game though. As is, it's at least 4.5/5, and an impressive improvement from CQ 1.
Tip: Use the terrain! You can block off stairways with three layers of things (IE three dead bodies, or a crate and a stump), allowing fun blockages. Various switches do interesting things (such as the elevator in the early gang boss room, or the switch by the well that deals -60- damage to all near the fountain when you invade the act 3 noble's house), and I've killed more than I can count by throwing bodies, pushing off ledges and similar tactics. A good way to manuever enemies into gainful positions is to leave your back open - the small disadvantage of being backstabbed is worth shoving an enemy for 40 damage and forcing a trudge back uphill.
The game stops loading if you navigate away from the page - since it only took like a minute to load, not too big of a deal, but might be a pain on slow computers.
Tip Cont: To show some quick calculations you could use to optimize if this game was hard, lets say your Mithril Sword (25-35) deals average 39 damage after a few dozen hits. 39/30 (damage/base damage) = 1.15, so you've got +15% damage. Your dex is at 30. That means right now you're swinging at 6.06*30% times per second, giving 1.818 swings a second. Does one more speed or one more attack help you more? Well attack boosts you to 1.818x1.2 = 2.1816xWeapon DPS, while speed gives 1.868x1.15 = 2.1482xWep DPS. So you want attack.
That's what we call total sheepocalypse! ;D
