It would be really handy if, after you've purchased all the upgrades, that screen stopped appearing. Honestly, it would be best if you could just call it up between levels. As it is, I'm tapping space bam-bam-bam-bam to short circuit the "cute" bit collection, jump to the upgrade screen, then jump out of it to respawn. Just becomes annoying after a while.
For the record, it's possible to lose - when the game glitches, trapping your ball against the side of the screen, you can either never move your mouse again, or you lose, for example. 1/5
@Allsparkl - I've got four stars on 1948, so yeah, it's quite possible. Just takes a while to realize that the enemy planes really are dumb enough for the obvious strategy to work.
For everyone stuck on 1948 - the thing that makes it easy is how incredibly stupid the enemy fighter pilots are. Remember, they're behind you, and you've got poisonous gas to dispense.
Loved this game for a while now, glad to see it come to Kong. And, frankly, I'm glad there's not grinding, no leveling up, no customization. The levels are balanced this way, you can't grind through them instead of thinking through, and you know it's all about tactics, not time investment or whether you should have outfitted your planes with X upgrade for Y level.
Since "higher level" primarily translates to "more bloons", it would be REALLY nice to have the option of lowering graphics quality. My poor old system is in unnecessary pain after level 60 or so.
Don't know what it is about that Victory screen, but it managed to be the final straw that crashed me multiple times... on the last level, just now, annoyingly enough.
@pongoea - Load Gemcraft. Look on your right. Load this game. Look on your write. Basically the same menus.
That said, run ANY WINDOWS PROGRAM. Look up. Run any other Windows program. Look up. ZOMG SAME MENUS!
Kudos to the Gemcraft designers for coming up with a good menu system, but using an intuitive interface as a standard isn't a bad idea.
Yeah, the concepts are taken from a bunch of different games - it's still more original than a lot of tower defense games, or Phage-wars style games. 5/5, just to annoy the "OMG THIZ IZ STOLEN AN' UNORIGINALZ HOW CAN IT WIN?" haters.
The problem, as a new player, is that I don't know what's going to be presented in the tutorials. I don't want to skip them, I want them to be presented in a useful fashion. I never know if a tip I'm seeing is the last, so I've missed tips by foolishly thinking it was time to actually do something, and I've waited until a message prodded me about playing, because I wanted to make sure there were no more tips I'd miss. Annoying. A simple clickthrough collection of notes, or scrolling instructions pane, either would work better.
Attention, flash developers: Scrollbars are now universally understood by computer users. They immediately indicate that there is more content, and how to access it. Computer users recognize them without having to think about it. Their functionality is robust and clear, more so than whatever slider or scroll you might throw in to take their place.
Therefore, if something in your flash app requires scrolling, don't be cute - use a standard scrollbar, even if you alter the look of the individual elements.
Seriously, game designers - if you're going to have text "scroll in", give me an option to make it scroll in faster. Some of us read slower than others, some faster, and I hate waiting long enough for young child to have sounded out each word letter by letter.
Otherwise, interesting game.
Screen rumble doesn't really add difficulty or verisimilitude. Just causes eyestrain. Also, it would be nice to see the stats for a gun BEFORE you buy it. Overall, sorry, kinda boring.
So, is there any reason NOT to hire a specialist? Ever? Or is it just a pointless pair of clicks you have to make every time your rep hits a certain level?
If you have to walk away from whoever's talking to you to close the speech window, JUST MAYBE it shouldn't actually obscure everything behind it - including you and the person "talking". Just saying.
