There's a nasty bug in the hiring mechanic.
If you hire one scientist, then stay in the same window without waiting for the dropship to bring them in, you can keep clicking the Hire button. You will be charged Science! for all the times you clicked Hire, however the dropship will only carry ONE scientist to the base - even though you paid the price multiple times. Only after the dropship has arrived can you actually hire another scientist. Please fix this - it me took a while to figure it out myself.
The game should reserve player slots immediatly when the loading starts, and free them immediately if the player cancels the loading. This way, you won't have to wait for a slow map load then suddenly discover that the server is full and you loaded the level for nothing.
I clicked "Play Now', the map and assets loaded (which took about 2 minutes), then I got a message saying that the Arena is full.
Think about reserving the player slot before starting to load the actual assets, as this is most annoying.

This is the 3rd game with the exactly same gameplay that I've seen so far...
Well, I'm a noob yet, but AS 2.0 seemed so logical and fluid (given that I have experience in Pascal, C++ and PHP). AS 3 seems totally different to me, and not nearly as logical. Anyway, thanks for the great tutorial! 5/5
I've the same collision problem here: whenever my ship hits the enemies, nothing happens. I'm using CS4, if that matters. Please, someone help. It won't work even if I put a collision check in both the player's ship .as and the enemy ship .as
