So... is there some trick to this? I'm on day seven and I can't even hire a new recruit since I need 2,000 gold to build a house, and I can't get any gold because I have to keep spending it all on repairs and henchmen and the enemies never drop any loot that's worth anything.
There is literally no way to win on hard mode. The enemy always has more HP than you, and since there's not enough of a difference between units for a "strategy" to really be useful, the enemy curbstomps you before you even get past the third wave, no matter what you do.
I was worried that every level from then on was going to have one or more of those obnoxious wandering bull guys. Thank goodness it was only a few levels in the middle. This works better as a puzzle game than a speed-and-skill game. And it's awesome, by the way. Now, any chance of a level editor?
Just remember these simple rules: When two 3's are adjacent to each other, all their faces facing away from one another are solid (because otherwise they'd meet corners). When two 3s are horizontally adjacent, the wall between them, and the lines on the outside directly across from that wall, are solid (it would make dead ends or loops otherwise). When a 3 is in the corner, its corner faces are solid (it would have dead ends otherwise). When a 2 is in the corner, either both its outer faces or inner faces are solid (again, dead ends), and either way, the two outer wall segments adjacent to it are solid. When a 1 is in the corner, both of its outward faces are clear.
Nope. I never tried the 2nd and 3rd quests without hacks.
