This game is an underrated gem. Such a pity that there are no sequels with more levels/weapons and maybe even a level editor. That would've kicked ass.
Might sound really crazy, but I kinda preferred that "lazier" combat design where portraits of characters fought each other, instead of these fancy modeled heroes. I don't know why, but I had way more satisfaction from killing enemies in those previous two games than I do here (actually I don't have any in this game). Not saying that the game's bad or anything, I might've been used to the old UI and kinda grew fond of it more.
This game begs for a Fullscreen option. It's so annoying when your mouse strays off the screen and your ship ends up doing absolutely nothing. Either that, or the script to force your mouse pointer to the center of the screen, unless paused.
Love how guards spot you that very precise tiny moment you walk into their line of sight, not even a millisecond passes before they manage to process that you're an intruder. This is especially awesome, seeing how they tend to make completely random sharp turns, meaning every single time you're running near the guard, you're gambling. That's it, it's a gamble.. a gamble where you hope the guard won't make a sudden turn and insta-react to your pixel appearing in their line of sight.
I think your mercs should be able to regenerate their hp over time.. say 1 hp every X minutes while not in missions. And if that would be too overpowered, maybe have a portion of health they can't gain back from regeneration. For example, if a 100hp merc takes 20 damage, he would have 80hp but he would be able to regenerate only up to 95hp (25% of the damage he received can't be regenerated in this example). If he later takes another 20 points of damage, he'd have 75hp and would be able to regenerate only up to 90hp. You would have to use the hospital to fully heal the merc to his max hp.
I'm wondering if there will ever be actual pvp.. you know the one where both players are online. If doing it real time would be tough, maybe making it strategic could be even more interesting. For example, at the start the game is paused and each player gets some time to give orders to their survivors. Once both players are done issuing orders, a simulation is run (lasting 5~10 seconds). During that time you can only watch how the battle is progressing. Once those X seconds are up, the game pauses again, and you get to issue new orders or let your survivors continue doing whatever you ordered them to in previous turn. This keeps going until one player wipes out all the opposing survivors. There could be a lobby where you can challenge other players (should be limited to X battles a day). Victors would get some items and exp. The maps you battle on would be randomly chosen (all maps except the compounds) - it's like as if you two met somewhere in Union City and are having a showdown.
I'd really love if you could give your survivors some advanced commands. Something like 'Defend' which makes your survivor follow and fend off zombies from another survivor that you chose, 'Scavenge' that makes him move to nearest loot spots and scavenge, 'Hunt' which makes them run towards any zombies and try to take them out to keep their numbers under control, as well as 2 keyboard commands, 'Stop' command that makes your survivor stop moving/scavenging and a key that while pressed, makes All your survivors move to the spot you click on. It would really help you manage 5-man squads more efficiently.
I think it would be really nice if there were some advanced commands you can issue to your survivors in a mission. Orders such as 'Protect' which makes your survivor follow the target around and fight off any threats. 'Scavenge' that makes the survivor go to nearest places that can be looted and scavenge. 'Hunt' which makes them roam and engage zombies so that they don't pile up. This would allow you to control a 5-man squad much more efficiantly, and would even allow you to simultaneously control all of them at once. And finally, it would be awesome if there was a keyboard command for 'Stop' that makes the survivor stop moving/scavenging, and also a key that if pressed, makes ALL your survivors move to the spot you click on.
I think it could be fun/interesting if you could sometimes bump into bandits during missions. Bandits would be npc survivors that shoot everyone on sight. If you kill them, you'd be able to loot their corpses for items. The encounters should be rare, and the bandits could sometimes wield nice things if you manage to take them down (which shouldn't be easy).
One tiny little idea. How about having a different sound when your turn comes up. Would be so handy for those 3v3 matches, especially if some people are dragging way too long to make a turn. You could do something else while they play, and focus on the game once you hear that sound which announces your turn.
I understand people not liking the fact that you can't get multiple xp from stacking, but hey.. at least now we get 50% exp off of players who left.
Anyways, I wish the bounce weapons would detonate on contact with an opponent's tank, but do less damage. For example a one bounce would do half damage on impact, 3 bounce only 1/3 on impact or after one bounce, 2/3 if 2 bounces happened and full damage for all 3 bounces.. something like that.
Am I the only one who thinks this game could use 2v2 or even 3v3 team battles? With an option to queue in with your friends and fight other teams together.
The more I play, the more I feel like Skills could really use multiple "and/or" conditions.. like for instance, if you have a buff skill and an attack skill, you can set the attack to higher priority but only use it when you have a positive condition, OR when enemy's hp is below 10% (that way for instance, if the enemy critter is really low on health, your critter won't waste time buffing himself.. he'll go for the kill instead)
Although it could be really tough to code
I think it would be really cool if you could form Critter parties (of up to 3 critters within certain level range for ex), and then go battle other parties or even go Safari (With appropriately increased difficulty)
I think there should be a constant amount of exp that gets distributed to players each second. So this way, if a team gets a leaver/dcer they will be fewer in numbers but will gain more exp per second. Also the back row turrets should be invulnerable until the ones in front are destroyed 1st.
