A good Karoshi type game that for once does not try to imitate the style of Karoshi. For advancing the general genre, 4/5, as well as for good design and clever puzzles.
5/5. The original Picma was awesome. I initially didn't like this version because the rules changed, but once I got the hang of it, I saw that the gameplay is still awesome and the puzzles are still brilliant. Great Job!
4/5. For its genre, I like it more than many of the point and click games. This genre is generally plagued with back design - however his game skirts those issues. There is no pixel hunting ever, and the solutions are pleasant to watch. While simplistic, its also entertaining and cute, and as far as point n clicks go, its better than most.
5/5. Although this type of game has been done before, the environment is well crafted and there's a lot of thought provoking stuff in here. Importantly, the rooms are still well designed and there is even a fairly unique platformer mechanic in here which brings the gameplay to an interesting level. Overall, both the art and design were not only done well, but integrated so well that this game is excellent, perhaps a classic. Time will tell.
This is the single best flash game I have ever played, and its not even close. This is perhaps the Aeneid of flash games. It is expansive (far larger than most works in its medium) and it speaks untold lengths about important issues. Corporatism? Being isolated in a world where there is little incentive to venture out?
But even better is that this game is a wonderful piece of art while still being the most fun game I have ever played. The story is so hilarious, the levels are so excellently designed . . . everything is so, so good. Bravo sir. 5/5, even though this is significantly better than many other games I have given 5/5, only because the scale cannot go higher.
What a delightfully surrealist experience. From an art perspective, if the game indeed can be called art, the message could be that life has many different roots, and each choice affects your path in life. This makes sense especially because you start as a seed and you always leave one behind (admittedly at the end, which doesn't quite follow the metaphor).
Regardless, what of it as a game? I am interested if the developer intended people to explore every path or to simply waste five minutes looking at the few short interesting things they would get to see. There is something charming enough but this game that I will give a 3/5 for artistic/entertainment value, but it is not quite the best toy.
2/5:
The music is the best part of this game. I thought it had something to set it apart from other top down shooters with upgrades, but the good music is about it (although I am almost positive I have heard this music elsewhere before). Takes too much grinding, levels have no flow to them. For an example of a good version of this game, play Frantic. Note that it is still to my knowledge the only schmup with enough sense to make you shoot automatically.
5/5. What a wonderful platformer. Rarely do the puzzle design, story, graphics, music and overall presentation coalescence in such an elegant and enjoyable way. The puzzles are simply great. They scale with the player's skill level testing at first your understanding of the game and then at the end your ability to figure out and apply the fancy momentum tricks. I personally dislike when puzzles get way too hard at the end - but this game did the difficulty perfectly. And even if it didn't, it had the skip a level safety valve, which is excellent design. One of my favorite flash games ever.
Although the title of the game lends itself to just starting out with no loading screen or intro, a lack of introduction to the controls works just as well too. The gameplay is surprisingly original - I think I have only see one type of game like this before. The brevity, hilarity, and MOST especially earwormy music earns this a solid 5/5 for me.
4/5. Not an entirely fresh concept but a fine execution. A good additional to the hall of unconventional platformers. A few notes though: As stated previously, it would be nice to actually view the entire map when trying to solve the level, and a larger jump would be much appreciated. No one like short jumping. Every jump felt like it had to be a precision jump when you could have given the character a fluid-Mario jump and just make the game that much more fun. I was gonna rate in like a 4.5, but then I saw "Hello Worlds!" on the recommended games list and remembered that is not Hello Worlds.
4/5. Excellent side-scrolling shooter offering a change in gameplay each round. A perfect blend of difficulty levels - the difficultly slowly amps up and then becomes very hard, thought still fun, in the final level. Overall very well crafted. Retro graphics are becoming a tad, well . . . old by now, however, they work very well for this game and are beautifully done. Mario bros music was a nice touch.
Pretty dern well done running game. 4/5 for colorful execution, integration of a meaningful upgrade system and tight controls. The missing point is derived mainly from some kinks in the achievement system: For example, upgrading your jumps makes jumping feel harder since you can jump over entire platforms.
Chilling. My favorite part was probably when the narrator mocked you for not actually building the computer. That was a pretty shocking moment.
I liked it overall, and it definitely has quite a message and impact. I understood right from the start of the guessing game that it an exercise in foolish patience. Very well crafted overall. 4/5.
As much as people like this game, I have to disagree. I am a huge fan of art games, I just don't think this one is well done. The design for this game is similar to the highly artistic and interpretive stories from so common from young writers. The art is well done (if heavy handed) but the problem is that the substance is so underdeveloped. I am a big proponent of games as art, but I think that with rare exception, the first rule is that the game has to be fun. If it’s not interesting, then there is no reason to play it in the first place. This game is simply not fun. The game play is boring, repetitive and never changes. The music is not at all interesting and is comprised entirely of low wails that make me want to turn the sound off. There is so much potential here, but so poor execution.
