Not advertising, not flaming, not being an idiot, not babbling nonsense people don't care about, not complaining about bugs that have been complained about before (or bugs that are not very widespread, e.g. not loading, it could just be user/server error). How about everyone just go back to proper commenting on the game yeah? Argue about which gang is best by fighting it out perhaps? Or just talk about it on the BOGF or on the game itself?
A hard point is a hard point is a hard point. No matter how many times you try it will not be successful. You need to get very lucky to do decent damage with plasma cannon on gatherers. Hence I stick with beam and area effect weapons against them.
I remember you Dmdunn... You weren't a bad opponent for being a gatherer... As for the others, they should very well know plasma cannon is practically useless against a ship with so many hard points. How do you kill a lagger? Don't unload everything as quickly as possible, WAIT to let the damage register. And I hope nobody is embellishing the story...
Well I'm probably going to be gone all weekend :D and about the hangar idea mentioned... money isn't THAT hard to come by in the game, and if players had a "hangar" then that's probably another possible loophole where bugs and glitches could give players unfair advantages (don't ask how, I'm not going to bother thinking of hypothetical glitches now). Keep it simple.
Ben DID try to design the game so that any ship could beat any ship under correct circumstances. My low-cost sprinter build can take out a Warship (and I have a pegasus build to take out Destroyers), my conqueror build can take out an ACW (and these are not pushover opponents). No tb or EMP weapons required either :D Anywho, dugan is actually fairly good (#19 on MP stats w/1560), I'm pretty certain he was making a joke. Y so srs evry1?

I am amused. Make there be no intro? That removes any plot context, which is vital for most kinds of games, including RPGs/RPG-esque games.
I'll say that it's still going strong, given that about 2500 unique log-ons happen regularly.

rsperson, statistically (with one ship pair exception) the ships are identical. Weaponry is the largest difference, utilities are also a notable difference, mines have one, prox weapons are identical, and larges of course have that one major difference. It's all a matter of preference in the end. There is no evidence for one side "being better".
And Crysal, it's very simple to take a quick screenshot and put it in IRFanView and rotate it 180 degrees, no aspirin required. :P
isradam, I think that the Final Fantasy series is fairly decent (mostly 6 and 7) but to be honest, FF has nothing to do with this game... Please think before you comment.
