To beat berserkers, build 3-4 skirmishers right after each other in a single row. if you've been upgrading them you should only lose 1. This will NOT stop upgraded berserkers (Sons of whoever), though. In Legendary, just build 1-2 heavy units backed up by a ranged one; in standard, build constant skirmishers on ONLY one row for whole fight, you'll win first. Ugly win, but works.
Shield block is only tough to beat if you don't know what to use against it...idiots. But seriously, fix a lot of the broken skills (negate bleeding effect, etc) and fix the enemies' dex, please...an enemy w/ 30 dex can hit my fighters in the back row 100% of the time, but my guys with 90-100+ dex miss their throws maybe 20% of the time?
How to win EASILY: all three fighers full Retarius skills w/ 1 pt in speed every level. All back row. Throw gets a damage AND accuracy bonus, so you can cut off any limb in 2-3 throws. Once you're a high level, speed will pay off. Beginning of the battle, use maxed Net on all 3 opponents. If you get a miss then just focus that guy, otherwise just use throw and cut off 3 legs...and you'll still have a turn or 2 of stun left :) Net also beats Shield Block, just net him and wait a turn until block wears off, then go for the right arm. Haven't had a gladiator lose a limb in 10-15 battles.
Provocatores is awful. Dimacharaerus and Thraex both do good damage but are easily taken out. Retarius is better than both, just sit in the back row and use Throw. Murmillo is by far the best b/c Shield Bash is OP, their damage is a little lower than the other classes (except Provocatores) but they are IMPOSSIBLE to kill.
Tips on how to beat enemy types: 2-handed, just cut off one arm and they're useless. They should be first priority as arms are usually the weakest. Dual-wield, go for one leg. Take them out fast too as they can do crazy damage. Back-row spear + shield, take out the spear arm and they'll be stopped 98% of the time. Front-row shield users, ugh, best bet is to go for shield arm first and then weapon arm. + if it helped.
Needs serious balancing. Retarius are practically impossible to kill and can do pretty good damage, Murmillo are also very difficult to stop. Thraex are jokes if you take out an arm, Provocatoress tree has no useful skills.
Poison and sprinkler in front, freezer and annoying in back will win most maps for you. Volcano towers are the best stone tower, but the critical ones are actually pretty good at the end of the path.
Either implement a unit cap or nerf the rabbit's special ability, as it is currently wayyy too strong. On most levels all you have to do is pump out rabbits as fast as you can build them; after ~30 seconds all enemy units will die the second they are spawned, and, even if something happens and you lose half your army, you can build a rabbit roughly every 2 seconds nonstop...
Also, ghosts are an interesting idea but need to be fixed. They die too soon 95% of the time, but the other 5% of the time they get past your army and kill ALL your reinforcements...make them weaker but able to turn invisible before they hit your army.
Good game. Problem is certain heroes are simply too good (Peter Elf Green gives units 8x DPS for 5 seconds for 100 mana, which is enough time to destroy entire enemy army) and there isn't really any use in producing anything but the strongest/most expensive units. Needs balancing, but otherwise great.
Beat the game, not too bad. For those having trouble on level 10, only build in the 6 spots nearest to your base. Start with 6 miniguns, work on replacing the back 2 spots on each size with one heavy weapon and one rocket, then eventually replace front minigun with rocket.
TIP: at start, build towers, don't upgrade them. 6 level 1 miniguns are cheaper and BETTER than two level 3 miniguns...level 2 heavy gun will one-shot the purple guys, and level 2 rockets will one-shot a scorpion. On later levels you will eventually want mostly rockets with miniguns in front to absorb damage.
If a tower is about to die, SELL IT. You'll get a great refund and it won't count against score.
On many levels, start building towers only immediately around your base, then eventually sell those and expand from there.
Tips: move towards goal points each turn. Killing aliens is secondary. Best skills are Taylor's sprint and its upgrades (basically gives Taylor 6 MP/turn, 50% more than other soldiers)), Taylor's shotgun + upgrade (lets Taylor kill everything), Blake's quickness program (gives someone another 2 shots or a reload), and Ammo Upgrade/bigger mags. Upgrade power lights and motion detector if you are having trouble, but they aren't necessary at all.
Great game; my one problem is that it seems the upgrades aren't well balanced. I spend most of my points on Taylor, Farro and global upgrades, as the other guys' skills are almost too situational to necessitate points...
Tip on gear: on your first go, play through the entire story on easy, kill all the puppets and don't upgrade your base; then, go beat the Conditioned challenge This will give you the Fighting Medal (good early on), Cramp Medal (best item overall in game), Storm Ring (best ring) Omniscient Blessing (best cross), and White Crystal (which is ok)
Cramp + Storm + Omniscient + Red = +25 attack, +80% attack spd, + 110 move speed, -300 hp, which increases every creature's DPS by 100-150%.
Hardest to use for beginners for each race are probably Shadow Dragon (lowest hp in the game and weak attack) but Mech Dragon isn't too good either, Entropy Alien for undead (not a bad final evolution, but attack is strange and its hard to kill bosses with it), and Earthshaker for spirits (again not bad, but weakish attack). For puppets Shadow Killer has overall the worst stats of any final evolution in the game but has a pretty good special, Ultima is nothing special, and Scarface has awesome stats and a good special but it takes a little practice to use. Hope this helps!
For people having trouble beating the game: play spirit, they have the best starting creature and Sparta is probably the best final evolution in the game, and Frost Spirit is also very good. For undead I recommend Corpse King (very strong AoE attack is one of the best in the game) but Death Lord is also good overall (and both CK and DL evolve from Walker, probably the best second evolution in the game), for dragons Dark Dragon (strong ranged attack and good special skill), and for puppets it's up to you as they are all good but I'd go with either Scarface (strongest attack in the game, special is hard to use but makes attack even stronger) or Chakra (slow-moving but strongest ranged attack in the game and pretty good special skill)
wow, so you have tried all races!
