Would be nice to have the smoke ring 'bars' (like the one at the start of chapter 2 when learning to do them) available throughout the game, for the people like me who can't time the smoke rings for nuts >.<

I really wish the meter for blowing circles stayed through out the game, I found the start of level 4 insanely hard because blowing three in a row is hard.

This platform game is awesome. I love the story, the characters, the graphics of her smoke was quite beautiful. And the levels were challenging. Love this game, favourited! 5/5

Spoilers ahead. I dont believe that jack murdered kathryne. First of all, he forgot about the day immediatly after getting back to real world from dream world. Secondly, he was mentally ill, but he was not a mad blood seeking psycho, more of it, he never hurted anyone. Lastly, quote from 2DArray response to shout: "The implication from the first game’s flashback is that Kathryn dies in her last room (or, in game-world terms, she falls into a bottomless pit). Now remember that Fixation introduces “safe” pits in chapter 3, and some levels have both safe and bottomless pits next to each other. Both types of pits look the same to us, and we learn from Kathryn that the differences between them aren’t necessarily clear to the characters, either. What if Jack just didn’t piece together what happened until later, after the game ended?".

In almost 10 years of Kongregate, this was one of rare times where I read every single word of dialogue. Deep, emotional, touching. After what I passed on the last few weeks, it looked like it was made for me, really made a lot of sense to what I'm living. I remember that I disliked Company of Myself for some reason, but this one... is art. Definitely a form of art. Huge props to the artist and the music composer. The whole environment is great, gives true feels... and feelings.

More than five years after first playing this game, I realized - the obstacles, puzzles and challenges represent the way depression and other mental illnesses make simple tasks insanely difficult and reduce one's perceptions to caricatures of reality. The clue is right there in Chapter 1 where she's trying to do household chores, but the player sees only obstacles and pitfalls...

I hate the timing on smoke rings when I can't see the meter. There's no reason why the game should hide the smoke ring meter.

That ending which tied the loose ends of the first game. That alone is brilliance. You made a wonderful game. The only suggestion I can think up is a Quality option. (The rain in the Swamp lagged the game quite a bit, making it difficult to time smoke rings.)

Awesome game swell job developer!! This game is a very good role model for kids. About how she turned her life around! 5/5 I think this game was helpful to some that don't understand effects of drugs.

Whoever wrote the storyline for this game is a f***ing genius! this is absolutely incredible! Music fits perfectly, the whole 'solving your problems with smoking' metaphor, and that last level. honestly for the last two or three chapters i sat there in silence with a bit of a cold shiver, this is nothing short of brilliant!

@memorex77 Yes it does, look at the ending and what he says when he tells Kathryn what he used to do for a living. That's how he got is hat.

This game has done something unexpected for me. I've played many of these 'art' games, and I enjoy them a lot. But this game actually managed to make me feel the exact emotion of the character. At the end of chapter 3, when she says that (trying to be spoiler free here), time sort of just froze for me for a few seconds. That '...' in Kathryn's speech bubble. That was just what went through my head. It truly made me feel like my emotions were in sync with Kathryn's. That is no small accomplishment for a game. Well done.

Someone made a comment saying that it would be cooler if the creators had just let people figure out the connection between this and Company of Myself. In a way, I agree with them. It would have been an interesting connection for the community to make, and an OMG moment for many. But myself? I'm not sure I would have made the connection myself. When he "multi-tasked" I'm not sure that I would have realised it was the same as CoM, even then, same creator, same ideas, possibly just a little nod to their other game. And lets face it, I can't remember the names of my co-workers, let alone characters from a game... even one like Company of Myself. So honestly, if they Hadn't told me it was a prequel, all those moments that connected the two, wouldn't have meant anything. And that moment at the end... you know the one, it wouldn't have made me want to cry.

*probably contains "the company of myself" SPOILER*
As far as I see it: Jack does remember Kath, he just doesn't remembering him meeting her this day, due to the effect of drugs. He doesn't remember killing her either. It has been much more than just one day, as far as I see it of course. He tells you about him meeting Kath in "the company of myself", but then he doesnt remember killing her either.
Somehow it feels like there is a large missing part of the puzzle to the story, even knowing the story of tcom.

Story, fantastic as always. Music, awesome, of course. Loved the game mechanic of smoke, whether in rings or in clouds. Whether or not this promotes smoking (which I don't think it does), the game makes you think about life and yourself as well as about the puzzles. Puzzles were tough but not impossible, and for some reason, I couldn't stop playing to find out more. Props on yet another very well-made game.
One minor suggestion: Blowing smoke rings was a tad touchy, I feel, and could be difficult for some people to master timings. Other than that, loved it. Cheers!

Made an account just to rate this game up. Honestly probably the best flash game I have ever played. Great story, great mechanics, original music, and great puzzles. The only thing sadder than the story is the fact that this game only has a 3.8 rating and <500,000 plays.

In the caves, Jack says: "Sometimes you do things you wouldn't normally like or forget about stuff entirely. In the worst cases, both at once." This explains how he killed Kathryn and forgot about the whole day. However, in TCOM, he said he was so sad that he "didn't leave the house for days." I don't know if this is messed up, or 2DArray placed a cospiracy on purpose. Anyway, this is kind of a sad, creepy story about why we shouldn't do drugs. And a great game from 2D, as always. 5/5.

I played The Company of Myself before, but I didn't really get it. Then I played Fixation today, and I didn't really get it. Then I went back and played Company of Myself again... and then I got it. It's a very sad story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Wow.
That took a while.
The art, the music, the puzzles,THE SMOKE, THE RAIN INTERFERING WITH GAMEPLAY AND GLASS ANGLES BENDING LASERS, THE STORY.
Proves the developer is good at everything that takes to make a flash game, and gives us this awesome game to play as result.

At first I saw this as another new game to try, but the instant I saw it was a prequel to The Company of Myself, my life was complete

Dear everybody - aside from smoking, killing is bad for people's health, too. Yet you don't see anyone complaining in all the shooters, space shooters, FPS games, tower defense games, etc etc. It's a game. Get over it.

Really great game. The way character development works is just magnificent. I really like how the colors of the levels play with Kathryn's emotions. And I can especially appreciate the fact that (like Henry said) the lasers are just in her head and that when she is finally happy, the lasers won't hurt her anymore.

These puzzles are... inspired. Though I don't always understand it right away, things are extraordinarily clear after I've solved a puzzle. At no point did I feel the need to go to a guide; I just had to look at the puzzle another way. Fantastic work.
