Simple change that would benefit the smoothness of the playing experience a lot - make healing numbers in green and damaging numbers in red. This would make it easier to tell whether you actually got damaged or healed with an ability.

"The only thing to fear is fear itself... and lag, especially lag" great game, but you need a good internet for it to work well.

http://obscuremechanism.wordpress.com/2011/11/04/town-of-fears-walkthrough/ this was a great resource. Hard badge took longer than it was hard.

this is one of my favorite games on the internet. years after having discovered it, i still keep coming back. the simple yet rewarding gameplay combined with the clever skills of the different characters makes this a wonderful game. I really hope you guys continue to make games! thank you for sharing this one on Kongregate :)

If the developers can’t even figure out how to make separate controls for music and sound effects, they deserve to have their games rated 1/5.

For people going for the hard badge, don't be discouraged. The first two chapters are the hardest. Follow LowManji's advice and after the first 2 chapters, the rest is pretty easy. I died more on the first two chapters than I did for every other chapter combined.

the chance to negate a hit is way too high. It is the only ting stopping me from beating almost every enemy that has it.

Why do I have to keep playing and playing before I'm given the opportunity to restart the chapter? I've restarted the whole game just to get out of this trap?

I really love this game's style. The character and battle systems are just great. Would love more games in this style :) 4/5

Thank you LowManji for your tips on getting the hard badge! I just needed two tries for the boss and I beat him! Look up his comment in "Best", it really works! :3

The core mechanics work well, and the character abilities (and free resets!) feel satisfying to upgrade. The art is particularly impressive. However, the monsters quickly boil down to the same few HP numbers and ability sets, which makes combat get very repetitive very quickly. More variety in monster mechanics and abilities would have made a huge difference, as would a broader palette of player choices during combat. Meanwhile the plot, which is supposed to keep the player going through all that endless combat, is simply not engaging enough - it's not particularly unique or original, nor does it retell an old story with any special flair. I think the main problem is with the characters, who never quite cross the line from archetypes to living, breathing beings. Nevertheless, the game does show both skill and ambition on the part of the developers.

Welp, in Chapter 2 of 10, I've gotten tired of trying to win with the Librarian on hard mode. I get that it becomes easier later, but you've made a game so poor and thin that I don't care about advancing to that point. 2/5

Tips: Max out health regen and health on the girl with those abilities, she's really powerful. The last boss on hard was really easy because she was regenerating more damagen than the boss took.

u can win with librian and last flake
librian: all in 1st spell (because every hit -9% of max hp boss) 1 in health and 1 in heal, u mast keep defence >2 and flood 1st spell, ur mission is damage 300-400 after that u can die. then pick student max regeneration and health, 1 point in 1st skill

I would have liked if there was some exploration or mystery part in the game rather than just clicking and a story screen after 2-3 battles...

a good game. good story. good concept. good art. good fighting style. good set of characters. the music was pretty unappealing tho. and the sound effects were meh. the needle was pretty off the timing too. all in all still a good game. 4/5

I wonder why the game did not rate higher. I just revisited this game after the first time finishing it more than a year ago, and it still looks great. Great game.

OMG! What an awesome game, love the way you control the actions, and the freedom to adjust all stat points. Great story, map, characters and final boss. Only sad point is...it had to end so...
PLEASE make more!

LowManji's guide makes Detective Marco a fragile speedster (resembling a stone wall since most attacks miss), the Simon the librarian a Jack of all stats (as much as that's possible, the poor design of his character makes him a master of none), Anjela Hudson a glass cannon, Last Flake a Stone Wall, and Jake the Hunter a Mighty Glacier.

Knowing what enemy you are about to face really would make picking characters to face it much more meaningful than "oh, so-and-so has X amount of health left."

Only problem with this game, A SINGLE FRAME can make your entire thing miss, I cant even imagine how many times I have missed with the librarian cause my cpu does not like this game entirely, With that ONE FRAME I have died SEVERAL TIMES cause of misses, I wish so hard right now there was a way to fix this for a better game, 4/5 only cause of the lag frames.

The trick to hard mode is getting a person with good heal to just sit there and pick at the enemy. Then the second person have a very high attack so he can take out the rest of the health extremely quickly.

If you're having trouble on Hard just read LowManji's post above. It's pretty much a guide on beating Hard mode. If nothing else if you get stuck follow his advice about Last Flake's skills. Max regen, one point in bite, dump the rest into health = she can tank through virtually everything in the game by herself. This includes the final boss in Hard mode.

Wanted to give it 4/5 but the endboss on hard really pissed me off to no end. Especially since all characters carry their health across all chapters. Yeah that kinda killed it for me.

Really not a fan of the "combat" system (and does anyone else notice that the needle is kinda way off?). I didn't really find anything about this game enjoyable.
