Suggestion: reward the player with an extra unlock after every 1000 kills. Something to convince players to keep beating things up when you only have three or four unlocks left to collect.

Also, it would be nice if while in a dungeon, any units you have not unlocked have some kind of marker to show that you should kill them. Along with that, another way to unlock characters would be nice, it get's very tedious and encourages me to stop playing when I have to go through dungeons hoping for the spawn

Bias the monster spawns towards unknowns, with the rate increasing for each time you've beaten the game. After 5+ game completions, you should be running into something new about every other dungeon. Scale the number of free unlocks the same way. Two free unlocks with your second completion, three for your third, etc. Together, that would make completing your monster collection a lot less tedious. Consider adding a coliseum with multiple AI-controlled party members so you can actually play with the debuffs. Paralysis and such are completely worthless without someone else on your team to take advantage of them. Netplay could be fun, but that's such a large leap in functionality that it seems impractical.

I enjoy the game, but it does get tedious, especially when you're playing a level and you know you're not going to find any new characters there. It would be nice if the game would take the levels you've collected all the characters from out of the rotation, or at least made them appear less frequently.

If you're on chrome check your adress bar. On the right if there's a small symbol crossed by a red bar, click it and select allow flash player and reload the page. The badge should now count your kills from now on.

a nice feature would be a level up system for you to individually level characters or kill creatures using characters to earn XP and upgrade them in ways like shorter cooldown time, more hp, more powerful attacks. + if you think this would be a good idea!

PROTIP: 1) The first 6 characters from the second-to-last row can be unlocked in the level with the long broken bridge and the flock of white birds. 2) All the small characters after that (starting with the babies but mostly based on indie computer-games like Aquaria and Braid) will only appear one at a time in the hidden area at the top of the level that starts with dropping down a narrow shaft. It requires a flying character to reach. 3) All the non-dragon 2x2 bosses (including the final two) can appear in the upper-right corner of the level that starts you on dark grey stone with a bit of a white-brick platform peeking onto the screen from the right (it has goblin-tunnels in the lower right). 4) You can hit Esc and go back to character-screen to randomly regenerate the level without completing it. If you know a level is useless, you can keep retrying until you get one that isn't. Happy collecting! (Vote this up if it's helpful.)

To anyone saying the sprites were stolen: The sprites were created by someone named Oryx (I think, correct me if I got his name wrong) and are FREE TO USE by developers. RotMG and this game aren't the only ones to use these character and monster sprites.

"It's A Bird... It's A Plane... It's Superman... NO! It's Birdman Tribe Leader"
He can fly and his staff is weapon of mass destruction. What else do you need?
Also I would like to note that Cthulhu suck deeeep.

Oddly enough I've found the flies to be a pretty good standard unit to go with, they fly, are fast, and have a quick attack that double hits. For boss fights I like to use the halfling monk as he has a quick attack and a nice self heal.

The cake is a LIE!
I've unlocked all 314 characters. I've rumbled and rushed through levels dozens of times, grinding frags, skulls, mummy wrappings and some cytrus.
And no reward in the end. All I saw was a usual message "blah-blah, you won, still need to unlock characters, get your unlock with 'c'".
Hey, I mean, WTF? I expected this final, but still, maybe a small cutscene, or a couple of phrases can be inserted into game?
Please vote to make author see it.

The skins are open source from a design competition. Both this game and Realm of the Mad God have used them. They're still out there and can be used by anyone.

Man, does this game like me to misidentify animals. "That's a cat!": Giant rat. "That's a dog!": Deer. "That's another dog!": Walrus with legs (why is Walrus with legs even a thing?)

I decided to wrangle a dragon as a cube of redness. As I expected, I successfully transformed the dragon into a red cube. Unfortunately, this then required me to restart the game, because I couldn't kill it, and it couldn't kill me.

The worst part is when you get knocked into the exit gate and you see something you have not collected right before it takes you away and you cant go back. :(

Unpolished game is unpolished, but I have no problem with the graphics and any game that includes "Citrus Elemental" as a playable character is OK in my book

Even the mightiest of dragons fall to the fate of the purple and green cube and their powerful attack of greenness and purpleness.

So I'm playing as the pegasus, flying around, being badass, when I remember there's a part of this level that had a really rare and powerful unit in it last time. I fly up there, just killing the thing really quickly, just wanting the unlock and not the- ... "Baby Girl unlocked!" ... "Attacks: None, none, none. Speed: Slow." ... I just killed a defenseless baby girl. Well... In other news, I can beat levels with a shit blob! (ACTUAL UNIT)

The core idea of this is great. I love the variety of characters and the ability to play as every enemy in the game. But the engine is really weak, and isn't likely to be fixable without a complete overhaul. That said, this could very well start a new line of games that improve on this idea, in the same way that there are tons of games that improve on the tower-defense or launch-into-space games. Creating a new genre is very impressive work; the fact that it isn't great the first time around is forgivable.

Maybe...a character maker...like, draw/color the sprite (image), and map skills, as a reward for collecting all chars? Just an idea.

I just unlocked every character. A couple of them you will definitely need the unlocks for (ie The Invisible Man, or White Egg to spawn Platinum Dragon), but don't worry they're easy to obtain. After going through the game and every dungeon once you should figure out where most character sets spawn from. You don't have to play every dungeon to beat the boss, just the dragons. To find them the fastest way start the bottom level first and work you're way across always unlocking 3 more dungeons and then go down two dungeons and work your way across again. Use Bahamut to fight bosses and use Platinum Dragon to fly through levels undetected. As for the tedious comments, it's a dungeon crawler game, which one isn't tedious?
There should be a medal though, for unlocking every character as it's the true challenge of the game.

The Birdman Tribe Leader is probably one of the best characters you can use. They are pretty common.
He has a staff attack that has practically no cooldown. You can literally land on top of an enemy and mash the 'X' button without him seeing you. He can fly so it is easy to get to certain areas. Flying also allows you to make a quick getaway when you are getting beaten up.
He also has a 'Gust Breath' attack that shoots out 3 projectiles that do 7 damage each. These are good to use if you are nervous about confronting a certain enemy. You can bounce them off of walls if there is enough room. They also aim down if you shoot when you are falling. This can come in pretty handy.
Even the dragons and other big enemies are no problem when using this guy.

Am I missing something here? I'm doing a bunch of different lairs but i'm constantly hitting repeats. Like, nothing is changing at all between a bunch of them...also, if this game didnt have all those unlockable characters, this would be an incredibly weak game, just constantly seing "unlocked ____ character" is the only reason to play it really.
