also if u have trouble with the controls just go to the controls screen and switch the pan controls to the arrow keys so that u have controls like halo, mw2, or any other first person for and xbox or playstation

it's impressive that one can now just play quake over the flash plug in, but to me it just feels a bit wrong. every serious gamer has a copy of it on his/her harddrive anyway... because this is without doubt one of the most important computer games ever made! love id software... looking forward to rage :)

More console commands, typing...
"Give 3-8" will give you weapons
"Impulse -1" will give you Quad damage
"Give 999" will give you ammo, must put shells, nails, rockets, or cells in place
"God" no damage taken

yes, the fact that flash isn't capturing the mouse is quite bad, just isn't possible with flash right now.
I suggest playing with keyboard only.
ASDW for normal movement, ctrl for shooting and the arrow keys for turning, its not perfect, but works quite okay comparable to the mouse handling in flash :)

Great "glitch", since this is the shareware version if you press "~" you can pull up a console. go to the second stage type noclip and run through the door. if you touch the pad it will start loading the level but wont play.

Bit of friendly help here: If you hate having to hold \ whilst moving to aim simply Hold "\" then right click the screen. After you reclick the screen you should have 4 way pan rather than horizontal pan only. Sorry if this has been posted already.

really needs to keep the mouse in the flash window if that's possible. I keep not being able to turn right anymore 'cos the cursor has hit the right side of the screen...
other than that, nice 1

This is awesome, brings back so many memories. Too bad we can't play this in multiplayer and in full screen (I know, I can download the full game for free to do that but still it would be good to do all this in a browser).

This flash version of Quake I brings back so many memories from my childhood days when Quake I seemed like the ultimate FPS game ever. Slowly of course there came CounterStrike, Call of Duty... you know the rest ;)

Hey...I used to have Doom 2 and this game is quite similar to it. Man I missed those days when I trashed everyone using my guns through 30 lvs of Mayhem...and using the rocket launcher to beat the lv 30 (final boss). Ahh...finally something to refresh my memory.

once you change the controls to arrow keys to look and space to shoot it handles beautifully i've never played it before being that im 14 years old but it seems just as great as doom 5/5

I love how, regardless of whether this port is "ok" or not, everyone acts like ID Software needs them to be their own personal piss and whine warrior. I'm sure ID has a legal team larger than the summer remedial classes most of you are taking right now. If they have a legitimate problem with this you can rest assured that they can solve it without your help.

why is everyone complaining about this guy not developing this game. we should enjoy the fact that can play this game for free on kongregate!!! "-" this if u want but come one... think about it.

sound options don't work. turned sound down both sound options all the way, game kept blaring at me.
You've actually managed to make this worse in your lazy port job. Original quake would alteast mute if I told it too.

The source code of the Quake and QuakeWorld engines was licensed under the GPL in 1999. The id Software maps, objects, textures, sounds and other creative works remain under their original license.
Do some research before acting like a smart ass.

Whoo! Quake! seems to work fine, and I would play further, except I just got Quake on steam....
5/5 from me for porting such an awesome game!

Was Quake 1 this intense? The controls were WAY too responsive and awkward and I found myself regularly getting dizzy. This really was fun though. If you're not a clutz like me, you should really enjoy this game. I found it easier to play by using the left and right arrow keys to turn instead of the mouse. Aiming via click and drag redefines unpleasant experience. 5/5 for fast paced awesomeness.

@somberfox Notice how you can only access the first level? That is because this is the shareware version from back in the day which was free to distribute. What you are getting when you buy the game is access to all the levels. It would help if you knew what you were talking about before you posted. *EDITED*

Man, it's been so long since I've played this game! XD Love it :D Only one bug: the mouse is still based on its position on your screen when you try to use it. That means you can only go so far in one direction before you have to let go, move back to the middle, and click again.
