I've always considered UP used for jumping to be really uncomfortable since I always think as jumping as a separate action rather than merely a means of navigation; I consider going up and down ladders or 'up' through doors to be navigation though. In the NES, SNES, Gameboy, etc games that inspired me, jumping was always a separate action on the non-d-pad buttons, and UP was always used in the way it is in this game... It works better *if you take the time to get used to it*, but the problem seems to be that people don't want to take any time to get used to unfamiliar controls, which is a bother.

Oh, one more thing to add. Sorry for the multiple comments, but I forgot to mention this. When there is a block with a spike on it, it is possible to stand on the VERY edge of the block without being harmed by the spike. Although, it takes quite a lot of skill required to do this consistently, and thus making it somewhat pointless to fix, but I just wanted to point this out.

great game, 3/5(just cause i usually dont like platformers, but this one keeps me interested)
i dont have any lag... try changing your local storage to unlimited, it wount need much, but having it at unlimited seems to take the lag out of games... oh! and even if you think you have it at unlimited, check again... just in case ;)

Unfortunately, it is hard to find a balance, and the 'true target audience' has to suffer so then I can make the game more accessible for the casual players... I don't like this myself, but I can't really see what else I can do. Also, uh, the lag seems to maybe be caused by the Kongregate chat...?

I really, really liked the first Raider and played it hundreds of times, but this one just went over the top for me. The game doesn't deliver on the promise implicit in the main character having fighting as well as platforming abilities - it's just a cornucopia of rooms where the entire environment is a spike/lava death trap. The enemies, in contrast, are embarrassing pushovers and desperately need more challenging behaviors. So while it's harder than the first episode, it's less rewarding because all the elements are old. *** I went back to the first game and checked; no lag. Something about the engine changed between this one and the first one to make it stutter frequently.

Started playing in FF, saw some lag, thought IE might do better, but when I ran it in IE the page spawned endless referral link windows. aaagh...back to FF it is, I guess. (I blame Kong for all of it :P )

pretty good looking game. i have a few suggestions tho'. i understand you are going for an old school platform style. but even those had power-ups or something to keep it interesting. maybe like a rapidfire powerup, or temporary invincibility, etc. second thing while holding up you should autograb ladders it would make maneuvering much easier. and lastly maybe next chapter you could incorporate some wall jumping or dashing like mega man style. oh and off topic what the heck man? i'm so sick of mardek 3 getting pushed back?? could be something epic if you got on it. anyways 4/5

People, please, if you are going to be critical, can you at least try to be constructive about it rather than just dismissive? If you find faults, suggest SOLUTIONS that would make the game better rather than just pointing them out like a fickle child with no attention span.

A great game, and for more reasons than one! Difficulty is spot-on for the level he was aiming at. Mega Man was tougher than this one, in several areas. The music is great, and the art fits in perfectly with the overall style.
I do feel that the Shift+A mechanic for the ladder-spike obstacle leads to more frustration to satisfaction, but besides that detail I never felt as if I was ever punished unfairly. The best thing about games of this difficulty level is they force you to think through your actions, and punish you if you make a hasty or poorly thought out decision.
A very strong 5/5 with high hopes for other installments in the series!

The purple room is the most f'ed up convoluted piece of level design in the history of video games!! I just went through it for the 100th time, realized I did it all wrong, killed off my last life, pulled all my hair out, now I'm writing this comment to vent my anger and go right back to playing it. I could be learning a 2nd language right now. :(

Oh man... I beat intermediate mode in 15:03. THREE SECONDS short of the ideal time... ouch. Well, I'm eighth place all time in score and rank, apparently the only person to get B rank without getting A or S rank. I'm happy anyways. ^_^

It's a fun game, but it takes to much time to pass level, I like certain hard levels but when the whole thing is impossible?!?!

-936 points. I got stuck on the last chamber for twenty five minutes. Whoo.
Well, by operant conditioning, I will now associate all platformers with blinding fury. This will be good if I ever need to kill something.

OK, here's the problem. Although the graphics and gameplay are beautifully reminiscent of the beloved 8-bit platformers of yore, the fact that this is a jumper rather than and a run-n-gun really takes away from the fun. Our hero has some really cool weapons that seem to take a backseat to the dominant perils of deadly spikes and difficult jumps. Still, good job. Please add some more enemies to blast away in the Episodes to come.

goooooood game. but for next episodes enlist some game design help. the -short-ropes-jumps-with-spikes-inbetween is getting boring and old real fast

room 29 was SOOO HARDD !! for me... It's been a while now, and I can't get it still... Not precise enough. I'm still wondering about those colored blocks part, where the pink road has some "red blocks", as I didn't have the courage to go through it again to see... :D Thank goodness for beginner difficulty, otherwise, I'd never have gotten underground !! I LOVE YOUR GAME !

the author actually decided to quit making individual 'episodes' and make one game with all 5 episodes included, probably released in late 2011

Instead of a hold-to-perform jump, shift could have very easily been a press-to-perform jump which would be much less awkward. I decided to stop playing after the first introduction of the hold and press scheme of the controls since I knew my fingers would be hurting very soon.

Pseudolonewolf is most likely not going to get the later Raider episodes sponsored because you casual gamers felt that the game was too hard and worth 1/5, although the main reason for that was because you sucked. Hard.
Be happy.

Okey!! At last I decided to complete these games!! I don't know why I didn't before, since they're really well made and bring back such good memories....
Music is the most remarkable feature in your games, in my opinion. Just fits perfectly with the environment and brings chills down my spine ;D It really annoys me that nowadays people can't appreciate this kind of old-school games you make...
But know something: there are still nostalgic persons like me who love to re-live the old good pixelated stuff :)
Ok, I'll try to make some suggestions for the upcoming releases, though I think the game is great as it is..: I'd love to see more variety of enemies, and more challenging puzzles. I think enabling shooting while walking/crouching would be good too. Hmm, maybe different types of element cores for your weapons with which you could bypass specific challenges or something?
Well, I don't know if you'll actually read this, but I hope it helps if you do.
Thanks for your hard work!!

Here's an idea for four achievements.
Medium: Get to the first purple checkpoint.
Hard: Find all the artifacts.
Hard: Complete the Game. (This can be done on any difficulty setting)
Impossible: Complete the game on Expert. (Probably the hardest impossible badge on this site.)

Bloody hard, bloody fun, bloody awesome. And done by a single guy with some real passion. I'm more of a Mardek fan, but this one is incerdibly satisfying.

the pink block is REALLY hard to do and i'm pretty good at platformers like this, it is an awesome game tho but that puzzle is just pain in the ass

DON'T use internet explorer. Also, getting rid of the chatroom reduces a lot of lag. The way you turn it off is to open the game in another window at the same time as this window, and the chatroom will be gone in the new window. Close this window, and you have a game with less lag!

People:
Do NOT complain about lag. This is not the programmers' fault. The lag is caused by internet explorer 8 and not changing that slider bar at the beginning of the game to 'unlimited', as you most undoubtedly have not done! If you didn't, then right click, go to settings, and change the bar to 'unlimited', as listed in the description for this game!
