PRO TIP: If you press space when you're not near a possessable item, the ghost will talk. This will cause nearby people to stop where they are (useful for stopping them from JUMPING OUT THE WINDOW) and look where you are (useful for bringing attention to soon-to-be-possessed items).

Guest1: "Arghhhhh that bear is ALIVE!! Hmm the door is like 3 steps away, but that must be a trick, instead I'll run up on stairs screaming and jump from the second floor; yeah that sound's like a good plan to survive.";
Guest2: "Hm, a floating bathtub full of blood... boring. OMFG that was the chandelier slighty moving to left? Crap, I'm out of here... *runs to the bathroom and slams his head over the wall til death*".

OMG I JUST SAW A MONSTER COME OUT OF THE BATHROOM, A CROW SUDDENLY APPEARED IN THE CAGE IN THE ATTIC, THE DEAR'S HEAD ON THE WALL EXTENDED AND THE TIKI POLE GLARED AT ME!!!!! but it's been 5 seconds since anything happened so i guess everythings fine.

Umm... so if a bunch of people run away from the house, then it's totally haunted, everyone will believe them, and nobody should ever go in again 'cuz it's seriously dangerous... but if a bunch of people die in the house, well hey, that house is A-OK!
