Story is actually about Orpheus, not Oedipus. Sorry normally I wouldn't correct such a thing, but Oedipus is famous for marrying his mother and committing incest, so I feel like I needed to clarify. Orpheus' wife, Eurydice, had died from a venomous bite from a snake. Orpheus bravely traveled to the underworld to get her back, and was the first and only person to move the God of the Underworld, Hades, by playing his music. He allowed Orpheus to have Eurydice back on one condition - he couldnt look back at her unless BOTH were outside of the Underworld. There are a few variations on the story but the most common one is, as soon as he had stepped outside the Underworld, he anxiously looked back only to see her fade away.
I really love Greek mythology and this was an amazing interpretation and representation of such a moving story. Thank you. It's because of games like these I'm going to seriously consider donating game developers...once I actually get a job and paypal, that is...

story is about oedipus who wants to get his dead wife back.
he comes in the underworld and has to pass cerberus (dog boss), later in he encouters hades, hades tells him he has to get his girl to him with music. she will follow the sound. But there is one rule, he must never look back till they're in the SUNLIGT again. he does this for a very long time, but in the end he gets suspicious. has Hades told him the truth? he might never get back if he leaves the underworld without his girl. still he keeps looking in fron of him. till he sets 1 step outside and looks back. but it was nighttime so he didnt see her in the SUNlight. he sees her for a second, then she vanishes. Oedipus knows he'll never see her again
I think the game is based on this story only the end is a bit different
Great game though 5/5

-Sniffles- At the end of this great game I realised...This is the story of Hercules, he was forced to kill her wife and went to hell looking for her. He defeated Cerberus (The Dog) and other foes to get to the ghost of her wife who was in hell, if he looked back he would be trapped in hell with her, a great storyline. 5/5.

Very nicely done. The story isn't as deep as everyone's making it out to be, but, it's execution is fantastic. The music is well chosen, it fits the scenes perfectly, and the overly simplistic graphics and gameplay let you really focus on the characters themselves. It's funny how people bash this game for the mythological story, considering the game manages to convey that story without a single piece of dialogue or plot device. I don't know about anyone else, but I find that impressive on its own

This game is great but terribly difficult for me. Reminds me of Endeavor, and if you like this game you should play Endeavor, which i believe is better. Both 5/5.

I love the simple but meaningful aspect and when I figured out "DONT LOOK BACK" was referring to Orpheus it really made me think about how much pain a situation like that could induce. Great game 5 stars and Favorited

tintaglia- If you've ever played 'the company of myself' you know of the sad story-line which, pretty much, is what makes the game so brilliant.
This game was just like that one. Depressing story line, walking, jumping and avoiding when needed. Just this one had a bit of killing too.
The 'depressing' graphics is another reason why I love this game. Graphics don't make a game good, the story and actions do. In my opinion, I'd rather playing this over COD. Too much COD gets so boring. It has nothing new, no story. Just pure killing.

I find it a bit depressing that people rate other people's comments low because they don't agree with their opinions, and not because of any faulty content. For instance, I didn't like this game and expressed this in a constructive way. People voted down my comment, and we are left being shown only the positive comments, however poorly written they are.
As for the game, I don't get the fuss. It's a simple platform game that isn't very challenging. I ran through almost every single room on the first attempt, and it was over so fast that I didn't have much time to reflect on the story. It's a nice story for a game, but the game being so simple detracts from the story. Perhaps if the levels had ben trickier or required you to actually navigate around the follower ghost, it would have given something.

the game either keeps thinking that i am still holding the button down when i am not or it thinks i am not pressing it when i am, and besides that it keeps lagging

Uh, I must say I wasn't that moved or impressed with this game. I don't get the fuss. Repetitive music, depressing 80s graphics, not a single challenging level - most of the game was just running through the screens and jumping in occasion. The story behind it is lovely, but don't exaggerate this game... it's a very simple platform game with a tad more backstory than Mario. If you want the real story, read a book instead.

:(such...such a good game an expert art why people you make idiot games like counter-strike and not games like this one?WHY?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
That was... a very interesting game, I think it deserves to be categorized alongside "Company of Myself" and other philisophical games in terms of ability to make one think- I can see why it would be rated low, however, with multiple levels being infinitely challenging at times and in certain ways- THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU RATE, KIDS!

@Ireneuszz: it is the myth of Orpheus, who travels to the underworld to save his loved one, but just before he is al; the way up again, he looks back... Its such a sad story...:(

5/5 Loved the old school timing style of gaming, a few screens took alot of trial and error, but was fun in the process. Great story, really makes you think.

I wonder..... the story says that Orpheus can't look back until he reaches the upper world. Did anyone try to look back once you got out of the underworld and before you reached the grave?

wow. that's all i can say. and fcuk. i will tell you this. in the end of the game, when they both banish. it do gives me the goose bumps. i don't know why but maybe because i was suffering in loosing someone special on my life too right now. i wish that would not happen to me. lol.

Man the music is awesome !
I agree with remaai, i think it's what the creator wanted ( adapt the myth into a game )
It's a good idea to make this rule ( never look back )
5/5

Best sound of any game I've played. Game is based on the Orpheus and Eurydice myth:

this reminds me of a myth. where a man's wife died and he made a deal with someone that if he can go to hell and back and not look back to check if his wife was there with him. his wife couldnt make a sound. he was driven to madness and at the very end he couldnt take it and turns aroundto see his wife. he lost the deal and I think his wife was trapped forever... did I really type all of that.... huh... I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

Anyway to fix the loading bug. The game enjoys loading each new area but will many times forget to load the character.
I've tried multiple reloads to fix this issue, but now I'm at an impasse to where reloads no longer work.
