Orpheus was a skilled minstrel who was to marry Eurydice when she suddenly died. So he traveled into the underworld and convinced Hades with his music to let her go. Hades agreed on the condition that Orpheus could never look at Eurydice-who would follow behind him-until he was out of the underworld.
Orpheus and Eurydice began their travel above, but Orpheus began to fear that he was tricked. So when they were close, he looked behind him and saw his love before she returned to the underworld - hope that clarifies the story a bit ^-^

Whenever I play games like this, I always look at the comments, hoping someone to post something to make me understand. And THERE it is!

People are saying that this game is all philosophical; giving their own interpretations and everything. But it's not open for interpretation really...it's the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.

Oh, yes. The classic Greek Mythology story of Orpheus, the bard that make the God of the Underworld, Hades himself, cry. With a gun.

After all these years one of the best games on this site. Beat it so many times and yet running through it is just as challenging and fun every time.

You have to shoot the F*cking dog in the back, otherwise you won't deal any damage...
Same with the other Boss only shooting the head will damage him.

Stickers do not and will not ever exist, what with Kong killing itself, you think they are going to actually bother looking into it? Also, who would do that if everyone got fired? Get informed.

Wow, a badge acquired all the way back in march 2009. No wonder why I didn't remember playing that game until I was halfway through.

when i jumped down from a platform I could'nt turn and shoot. At first I blamed the keyboard, but then I noticed that he bends his knees and staggers after falling. That's good work on detail!

And btw, here's the basic story on Wikipedia-
"The most famous story in which Orpheus figures is that of his wife Eurydice (also known as Agriope). While walking among her people, the Cicones, in tall grass at her wedding, Eurydice ran into a nest of snakes which bit her fatally on her heel. Distraught, Orpheus played such sad songs and sang so mournfully that all the nymphs and gods wept. On their advice, Orpheus traveled to the underworld and by his music softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone (he was the only person ever to do so), who agreed to allow Eurydice to return with him to earth on one condition: he should walk in front of her and not look back until they both had reached the upper world. He set off with Eurydice following and in his anxiety as soon as he reached the upper world he turned to look at her, forgetting that both needed to be in the upper world, and she vanished for the second time, but now forever."

genuinely one of my favorite games, I think about it years after I've played it, with how simple it is and how effectively it gets across the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The ending broke my heart. Love it

i wish there was a way to pause it so i could take a singular breath without respawning continuously and dying continuously

Great....you survive snakes, spiders and squiggly lines bent on your destruction only to be killed whilst jumping over sperm.

it's not that much a philosophical game, but it's a really nice adaptation of Orpheous and Eurydice's Myth. I had to get her ghost to realize this was the myth and that the final boss is Hades :I

Old Greek mythology, a man wanted his wife back from the dead. He traveled to the underworld, battled demons, and was told that he can have his wife back if her spirit can follow him back up, but he was never allowed to look behind him for his wifes spirit. In the end, he looked behind him, and he never retreived his wife. Sad story, great game.
