And btw, here's the basic story on Wikipedia-
"The most famous story in which Orpheus figures is that of his wife Eurydice (also known as Agriope). While walking among her people, the Cicones, in tall grass at her wedding, Eurydice ran into a nest of snakes which bit her fatally on her heel. Distraught, Orpheus played such sad songs and sang so mournfully that all the nymphs and gods wept. On their advice, Orpheus traveled to the underworld and by his music softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone (he was the only person ever to do so), who agreed to allow Eurydice to return with him to earth on one condition: he should walk in front of her and not look back until they both had reached the upper world. He set off with Eurydice following and in his anxiety as soon as he reached the upper world he turned to look at her, forgetting that both needed to be in the upper world, and she vanished for the second time, but now forever."

It's the story of the poet and Songwriter Orpheus, who loved his woman so much that the Greek Goddess Persephone allowed him to come back to Hades and pull his woman out as long as he didn't look back to check on her.

To kill the dog, you need to stand right next to the forcefield so that he leaps into it and bounces back. You may then shoot him in the back. During the last bit of life he has, he will not leap anymore, and thusly, you need to jump over him rather than him jumping over you.

Great idea, great story, great sound and fun with just the right amount of challenge. It's always impressive when a game provokes an emotional response, doubly so when it's a Flash game.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER : I agree that yes, it was all in his mind. He lost his love and was standing over her grave fantasizing that he could travel to the underworld and get her back as Orpheus did for his wife Eurydice. That tie in is brilliant. I too agree with previous posters that these types of games deserve their own catagory. Again, very well done.

I think the fact that the game is named never look back, and that at a certain point in the game, it = failure, is a lesson about dwelling on the past. If you spend your time looking at the past (or where you were) then there is no future for you (or where you would have gone).
This is just my opinion on it though, and I may be wrong, but I really do think that this could be the deeper meaning behind not looking back.

Gasman86 is completely right, i did a bit of thinking myself, and came to the same conclusion. Very touching and philosophical. Agreed that there needs to be a specific section for this type of game. Touching, 5/5. + and keep this going!

Wow, when you think about it, it's such a touching game.... sniff.... Hey, maybe he came back and realized that this was how life was supposed to be, and if he could never look back, life would suck... nah that's probably not it.

I'm not one for all the emotional stuff injected in this, sorry. Did the ghost have to make such a horrid gasp every time I turned around? It was so bloody annoying that I had to mute the game, even though I enjoyed the music.

how to beat the dog... 1) let him jump then go under him while he is in the air, shoot his butt 2) let him jump over you again and shoot his butt 3) jump over him when he charges and shoot his butt.

To all those complaining about the difficulty: it's supposed to be hard to show that he loved the one who died so much that he would risk life and limb to bring her back from the dead.

I would like to credit the voice actor in this game. Although it was only one gasp. IT WAS LIKE WOAH!
I think the message is saying that you have to learn to let go. Just because you can go to the underworld and get someone back doesn't mean you or them is going to last when you emerge. Kinda like Dante's Inferno I guess.

Okay, this is a great story, sure. I think I understand the ending from the comments, but damn, dude! You messed up with the gameplay. Some would call this a "fast-paced" game. I call it harder than hitting a grain of sand with a bow and arrow from a hot air balloon while trapped in a cloud. The story was good, the graphics were fine, but the gameplay was horrible. The enemies were too fast and too strong. The first time I got pissed off was the part when you first drop into the underworld. Remember, the room with the two bats and the snake? Talk about beginners trap! Seriously, if you don't get out of the way, you die. In the first half a second. Then, you have to turn around in midair and shoot the bat flying at you, followed by landing, turning, and shooting at the snake and second bat. Even after I managed to figure that out, I spent 10 mins pulling it off. But it's symbolic, right? I agree. However, that is NOT an excuse to make a game impossible.
Next: Enemies.

That is a very saddening game. I loved it, the soundtrack was moving, the Greek mythology behind the return, and in the end, the ultimate paradox. You never went through that whole journey, only in your head. I wish to rate it infinite/infinite, this moved me and I hope it moves others. I have no other explanation of feelings.

Rsowowaa, this isn't a game. It's a lesson. Morale: Do not dwell on what is past *Behind you* and instead look to the future...and NEVER LOOK BACK to the past.

@MarineDown, When dog jumps to edge, those zigzag things, it turns back and then shoot it to back... you must shoot it to back :)
