5/5 - although, a single complaint: too much stuff is happening on-screen. Eye-candy, yes, but confusing. Maybe removing money as pickups (just award them directly) would solve this issue.

theese games are supposed to be hard but i mean the unpatterned spam of bullets are massive and your ship isnt exactly small so it hits atleast 3-5 when it hits something and then short after eating tons again. Its almost impossible to get thru the maps as they go on.

4/5 - good top shooter. Power ups are attainable a little too easily. Would also like to understand how multipliers are lost.

Fun shooter. The pacing of the upgrades and completetion of the game is off.
Trying adding a couple of extra really expensive upgrades so we will have something to buy in the last couple of levels. Make them several and only have you upgraded everything else.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
You could make the upgrades more expensive and powerfull. Now it's done at 1/2 of the game. After that all the money is just in the way. Idealy the money from 1 map should buy you just enough to win the next map. The first few maps work, but after that they get hard and you have to grind.
Also, the scoring is kind of pointless. Should be score per map or something.
I did _try_ to make it work like you say, so each level provides you with just enough cash to buy upgrades to complete the next level - I'll need to work harder on that next time around....I did consider something like score-per-level, but then I've seen a lot of flash shmups which do it this way so I thought it was probably ok - maybe I was wrong....
ha ha - very funny: no seriously the text-sprites where a source of constant worry for me 'cuz on the one hand they can be annoying and distracting, while on the other hand they provide feedback that you're actually achieving something.... I may tone them down a little next time as part of my general drive to increase visibility
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Its annoying when that text pops up randomly going all over the screen messing up the whole view and distracting you dodging bullets... 3/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
2/5 this could be 5/5 but there are not enough upgrades. It gets tedius the moment you run out of things to upgrade 1/2 way through the game.
more upgrades is always a good thing, but they do take a lot of effort to implement, especially when you consider the need to try and keep the whole game balanced: With this game I had a lot of basic stuff to sort out and so didn't have the time to implement as many upgrades as I would have liked - I'll try to include more next time around.

After buying all the upgrades before i complete level nine, it would be nice to have some kind of a way to buy extra lives.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
An excellent game. My only complaint is that there aren't enough upgrades: by the time I hit level 9 my ship was fully upgraded.

also, if this is made by the same ppl who made Starmageddon, what happened to "all the bullets on the screen turn into money when the boss dies" thing??? still like how when you kill a boss, lots of money popped out... its a good self-esteem booster
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this reminds me of Starmageddon... personally, i feel that the graphics were better in Starmageddon... the drop item icons were much more friendly enemy ships looked better and so did your own ship... In this game, an attempt at pseudo-3d kinda ruined the artwork..
Despite all that i said,, its still nicec... Is this game made by the same creator as Starmageddon?

Playing this game made me want to return to Touhou, that was a big mistake on my part, now these kind of games are too easy, and Touhou is so hard *cries*

Lose the blur from enemy death.
Seriously, if you're gonna make it bullet hell, at least let me be able to see the bullets.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
game is good even though the hard visibility , but i like all the upgrades and the difficulty curve.
maybe add a upgrade for damage for all weapons and a slow regenerating shield would be nice and life increase execept for that 5/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
deffinately a great game but it should mention first that if you play the 13th level it will basically submit your score, it is hard to try to get a high score if you get reset

I would enjoy a health upgrade. There are some unavoidable situations where you just get destroyed by a cloud of bullets. An upgrade to the ship's health would make this game a bit more bearable.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Argghhh! I finally made it to the final boss by some stroke of luck, I happened to keep getting shields all the way through the game, then the last boss just destroyed me :(

omg, I will never ever beat this game. I've been on the last level for 2 days. So addicting and frustrating. I can't wait for the next game(assuming I ever beat this one)

Great game: smooth visuals and decent BGM: my only complaints are that it's hard to see anything on later levels and it's hard to tell when you die. Other than that this game is fantastic. Keep up the good work, Vibe13!
yeah those are common complaints about the lack of visibility - I'll really have to sort it out for the next one - but I'm glad you enjoyed it despite those limitations.

Fun shooter. Well done. Minor complaint: I've maxed out all the upgrades before level 10, and it's still a bit too hard. Maybe add a few more upgrades?

This is what i liked:
Upgrades
lots of baddies
lots of bullets
good music
good patterns
What i didn't like:
hitbox is your whole ship. as large as your ship is, this is WAY too big. should only be a few pixels in the middle. That grey thing on the top of your ship is about the largest it should be.
not enough upgrades. the ones we have aren't strong enough late game, and with only three levels to each one, we end up finishing with pointlessly large sums of cash. More upgrades and stronger upgrades please.
overall, i'd rate it about 3.5/5. not bad, but there's definitely room for improvement. would be a freaking awesome bullet hell if you could fix those two issues.

I haven't played the original, but this is a very well done game! I can feel how well planned every single enemy, and bullet was placed. Most Shooters here don't feel as tight and controlled as this. Lots of tiny but noticeable areas where you can stay safe for a few seconds, pretty much how most traditional bullet hell games are. You guys are doing a great job (even if the effects and explosions are a bit much), Keep up the damn good work!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I think the ship's size should be reduce. In classic bullet hell games, the hit box is only a few pixels (sometimes only 1). Here, the ship is huge and cannot possibly dodge bullets most of the time
you could well be right about that: I was aiming for fairly 'accurate' collision detection versus the pixels of the ship - I should have made the ship smaller... I'm only just starting to get used to this 'tiny hit-box' idea for bullet-hell games - maybe that's more important than 'accuracy' and I could have made the collision hit-box a lot smaller than the visual ship sprite.

Superb - 5/5.
It would be nice if the upgrades went at least a level further: by the time you reach Lvl 10 you really are surviving on luck alone in many ways. I finish the game with about 1mil in the bank and it's useless. As one of the medals requires a x100 combo without losing a life, and you can only attain that combo at Lvl 10 +, you really need more firepower (or something) to assist you.
But GREAT game. MFW I logged into Kongregate and saw this - YAY! :) Thank you.
I know what you mean about "surviving on luck" and it's not something I like either so I'll strive to avoid that in future - but thanks for the positive response, it really does make all the hard work seem worthwhile

Simple fix for the low visibility problem: Make the enemy bullets appear above all smoke/fog/explosions. Maybe make a small black aura around the bullets in the smoke also to help with contrast. Something to help them stand out.
that sounds sensible...I'm not gonna fiddle around with this verision just 'cuz I'm exhausted right now and I need to chill out for a while, but I'll definitely bear this in mind next time.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this game doesn't add anything to its genre, isn't new, original, interesting or DIFFICULT, and definitely doesnt instill a sense of "nostalgia," even though i played my fair share of Sega shooters. it's just BAD.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
"this is a bullet hell" you can't see the bullets... or your ships. too many retarded explosions and coins onscreen. so, no, this is just a 13-yr-old's terrible flash game.
it might well have been more fun with a smaller hit-box, but I can assure you the programming that went into the current collision system is a _lot_ more sophisticated than just a hit-box overlap test: bullet paths are traced into bitmap data until an opaque pixel is found..... I'm not John Carmack but I can program really quite well. Your problem is not so much with the quality of the programming as with the game-design decisions I made, and on that front I concede that you may have a point
