I give you the friendliest of warnings, there is a chance of a Plague Inc/Pandemic 3 style clone popping up if you take another year to sit on this very fun and unique IP. NDemic has been open and honest about their inspiration, and so would I and anyone I got onboard be, I’d go out of my way to avoid the spirit of plagiarism, but you can’t let this rot in a dying format. That said defender quest 1 demo seems like the least excellent game you made so far to me. I especially hate how you now have grind, previous games did a great job of avoiding it.

Judging by the date of his last post, what it was about, and where he lives, he probably got hired by an actual big company. Texas has been catching up with Silicon Valley the past few years in terms of tech expansion. And I’d wager a guess that the addition of grindy elements means aiming at a mobile release someday. It’s a shame, but short of developing something on the tier of Undertale, that’s the only way to make good money on the pc/mobile markets as a solo dev these days. China, Japan (most notably Gacha), and EA all contributed to ruin the market in their own personal ways.
