At first, this game was just about car slaughter. Certainly I obliged at first, but the 3rd time, I noticed him. The red car. He was determined, energetic – so full of life. I began to make the path easier so Red could persevere. And he did, growing more confident and assured – “look what I can do, Road! I can do this! Let me show you!” And I was proud. I am proud... The first time it happened, Magenta just edged Red off a bit. “HEY”, I exclaimed, but I am just the road, how could they hear? Red started to feel worried – alone. I started to feel alone. I missed Red. So I continued to make the path easier and anxiously waited for Red to catch up. He did. I rejoiced as I saw a confident Red on my pavement again. Then Magenta returned. I will never forget it. I swear on my flesh and stone, Magenta rammed Red off the road. Red combusted. If concrete could cry, it would. I tried to believe that Blue was just as good, an unsung hero –but it wasn’t the same. I’ll miss you, Red. I’ll miss you.

I don't think I've ever felt abandoned while driving. That must be one hell of a road to make people feel like victims in a Saw movie.

I saw the picture and didn't think much of it at all... But when I saw that first car explode I realized that I loved this game. So simple yet so satisfying.

great here's one of the ways to have fun: leave only 2 cars on the track then make a deep hole just after it a giant mountain and you will get some fire works

This is an instant classic. What a phenomenal flash game, possibly the most intriguing and unique game I've ever seen on Kong. I would like to see more hazards, maybe like breakable fences or spike strips that you can lay across the road. Expanding the sandbox concept would be awesome, if you added more hazards and the like. I was also surprised at the differing levels of intelligence. Sometimes the cars would react realistically to the hazard boxes and other cars, and other times they would just drive off the map for no reason. The different emotions that each car could have was a dynamic and interesting system, while its difficult to watch the cars play out their emotions when the camera is moving so fast, it is quite satisfying to see them when you can. This game is going on my favorites, and I give it 5/5 stars!

If you are planning to add a sequel, one thing i would like to see would be keyboard controls. It gets annoying have to control the road and aim the road blocks with the same control.

This is an awesome game, especially seeing as you made it in only 48 hours. I'd really like to see what you could do with more time. Also if you don't mind me asking, which of the Molyjams were you at?

Ah, this game just made my day. Getting a few cars to 70+ mph then making a bumpy road and watching them fly and flip. That's hilarious to me for some reason. I want 2 more badges for this game. A medium badge for killing all cars before 40 mph, and a medium badge for keeping 3-4 cars past 80 mph. Anyhow, great game. Very fun to mess with. 9/10 Time-waster.

since you do not want to change or update this game, why not make a sequal including all the ideas people have given you?

Hahaha thats fun! I enjoy it, but need more options or modes, to be a more complete game, its boring, to play continuosly.

would really like to see a "You are the road 2" the play-ability of this is great, the idea is original! For number 2 I would love the option to use awsd for turn and mouse for drops. I really really hope you run with this and make a part 2! :-D

I have to disagree with you about it not being in the spirit of the competition to expand your game. Some of the best flash games I've ever played were initially made in 48 hours---then fully fleshed out later. I mean, it's not like you're trying to enter the fleshed out version into the contest. Still, it's your game, so I guess you can do whatever you want with it.

you should make it so we can buy upgrades such as more obstecals, and we get the "money" buy blowing up the cars, you can also let us buy other things such as ramps!!! and the more hang time the more money!

I like the mouse control for another idea is to implement a keyboard control into the second one, with all the other doohickeys; objects, terrain, cars, etc.

Great original concept and great game. I would love to see how it plays on a smart phone or tablet with use of the gyroscope.

I totally love this because i always laugh at those funny-direction cars. I did read your posts to some people here... I wish you could plan a great racing game of this in future with few things to add in, such as... (A) racing-places (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) (B) different objects than just green cube (C) different type of cars (even mixed types in one race) (D) add random objects on the road for more difficulty to cars for dodging them, like trees, grasses (not the road one, i mean THE grass where to slow them down. If you add offroad or big one, it won't slow them down)... Hope I will play your new "You are the road" game in future with those amazing options! :D 10/10!!!

how about you post this as a starter level and have a contest on who can make it the best in 7 days or a month or something

Managed to top out a particularly determined purple to 153, so much burning rubber, so little control, I flipped her something beautiful. This game is simplicity, addictiveness and intuitiveness tied up in a well presented package. I enjoy the lack of game modes, scoreboards and variables. It's bordering on sandbox. Hat's off to the author.

The cars all kill themselves on a game where I do nothing. They can't drive in the lines even on a completely straight road with no other cars. And they drive equally well on grass and road. It's a good showcase for the mouse only control, but it needs tweaks.

Perhaps do two submissions to kongregate, one that was for the jam, and another with all the extra bells and whistles.

i killed all the cars at speed 35 and the road kept going. Also i have an idea for a badge where you have to have all cars remaining at speed 100 to earn the badge. or another where you kill a car by it running over you (going to fast and falling of screen)

click outside the window of the game, then scroll down to bottom of the page really fast... it will make a really steep ramp.
