What the hell happened here? Necronomicon 1 was a fun little game, full of flavor and reactive cards. All of that has gone. Sanity, one of the best aspects of the first game, is totally unimportant. Creatures are now the same as Taint, i.e. damage every turn; there's never any reason not to drop your biggest guy into play and attack with it every turn. Why the extra superfluous clicks to attack? There's almost no point in not attacking, so why make the player click around to attack, rather enabling an option to STOP attacking, when The King In Yellow is in play? Slots for 2 attackers allows lucky draws to crush an opponent, and defending is virtually worthless. Diversifying the cards into different types just reduces possible card interactions. What's the use having an Assassin if your opponent only has a Tome and a Location? To cap it all off the music, while atmospheric, is on a loop so short is grates after very little time. I cannot tell you how dissapointed I am with this game.

Alright, here's my suggestion. If you want to load a game, you should go to level selection. Not straight to the level after the one you last played. That way you can leave, come back, and pick up wherever you want. I'll make more suggestions later after I've played more.

KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid
Too overcomplicated compared to original Necronomicon
Rated 5 the original one, only 3 this one

Needs a better ending. More interactive cards would be nice. For example: the one taint card is pretty useless at later levels. But if you were to earn a card the says something like "if opponent is tainted, his arcane power is reduced to zero. Also not all of the mythos is random insanity. Lots of investigation and spell prep is involved, so you should be able to add or remove a couple of cards. Not build a whole deck, just a few would be nice.

I think the Great Old Ones like me, I got The City of R'lyeh, The Dunwhich Horror and the black woods from the start. (;,;)

I loved the first game, and was happy to see a sequel ... but overall I'm finding this one much less compelling. Specifically:
- Sanity loss is almost never a factor, since sanity totals usually stay so high that it's irrelevant. Thus one of the major balancing factors of the original game is eliminated, and many cards lose their significance. Discarding for sanity is never necessary, and playing a high-cost card doesn't feel like a difficult choice.
- The game seems way too easy overall. I only lost 3-4 games on the way to completion, and got S rank on the first try in all but about 5 cases. I was sad to see that even Great Cthulhu had far weaker stats than I did.
- I hope the challenge modes from the first game will return; they provided most of the replay value for me.
Sorry for all the negativity -- it's still a great concept, I just hope it can reach its potential!

What? Some things really don't make sense. Why does an attacker with 4 attack get destroyed and deal 0 damage to the opponent when the opponent's monster only has 2 defense? And, uhm, since there's no way to gain cards at all, it seems entirely luck-based. I was completely destroyed in the first level due to the opponent getting heavy damage cards and naturally always living through its insanity.

At first i thought "oh, nice, a sequel". I dont think the cards are not balanced enough or its bad that some work differently. But i found it disappointing to see there is no main battle and the game does not get harder when you play for a wile but easier. It does not even congratulate me for finishing all levels on S.

It is a good game. But it needs more cards, more challenges, profer levelings...
No, this game is not bad, but not great either. It could be better.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Excellent better than the first but needs to be harder :)
bring back the impossible challenges these where the most "lovecraftian" experience of the game, where you shat your pants every time your opponent drew a card.
Thank you for developing this little gem, and i hope there is a 3rd one planned .
7/10

This game has such a potential to be a REALLY incredible game, I sincerely love the concept and the playability, but it needs more cards to make the game more different, because with the variety you have here, you get bored of it very fast.
Another thing that would add a "better taste" to the game would be a true score at the high scores page, just like the badges, scores make people want to play more to be the best player =].
I really, really hope that there will be some updates fixing those things, and I will be very glad to help with art or anything to my reach =).

It's a good sequel. Hard at the beginning because many of the cards from the original have been changed or nerfed. Some of them are missing too--where's Yog-Sothoth? I don't like the change to insanity; there was more strategy involved with different kinds of mental diseases helping or hindering. As you play on and get more S's it's a lot easier. Just like the last game, there's no real ending, which is a let-down...there ought to be an ultimate rank each time you manage to summon a Great Old One per level, considering how hard it is to do that currently (what are the three kinds? Cthlulhu, 1000 Woods, and what?)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Its way too easy to get the higher ranks once you get to the final levels... i got an "A" after loosing on level 28. I think the ranking calculations need to be tweaked. Oh, and pressing "load game" just seems to load a random level you unlocked earlier and you have to beat it before you can go to your level selection screen.

Having played a little more, I can see how you can get S's, but it means stacking taint on your opponent, and then holding back a Molotov while you rapidly heal/sane yourself before you finally throw it - which leads to just a battle of attrition. Wilbur Whately is obscene given it takes one of two cards to delete him and then one of three to remove the taint he leaves. Perhaps having the big hitters (Whately, Molotov, Dark Young, Hounds) also damage you for using them, like the King in Yellow.

Really don't like this version. The different cards are too split apart too form a decent defence. The big attacks (Deep Ones, Young Charge, Molotov) cripple you with little healing available. The 0 Sanity block stops playing for Insanity. The AI always seems to have Sacrificial lamb when you play Dunwich Horror. And despite playing the old game to death, I can't seem to get above a B on the chart.
Really needs to have more strategy built in as at the moment it's solely reliant on what cards you get.

i miss the different types of insanity for having negative sanity, not just "Suicidal". good game though. nice new ideas.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A Shoggoth tried to shoot me with a tommy gun, but then committed suicide, presumably because holding a gun is impossible when you're a massive blob of slime.
Those are the moments I live for.

The first one was better, albeit having some new awesome features in this one, but just like DOKTORTR said, "*throws molotov cocktail* *destroys r’lyeh* F*CK YEA" 5/5 (I'd give it more but I can't find the 6th star)

On behalf of everyone, I say that this is the most unique and effective card game experience I have played. I appreciate the well thought out soundtrack, card design and playmat layout. Though the game has some flaws, as all games do, it is undeniably a cut above the rest. I look forward to the other things that you will produce. I hope even to work with you on your next game. The Necronomicon series is just sheer evidence of your genius state; a mind like yours could very well change the face of games as we know them.

love this game, too easy this one than the last, i never went insane and always had way more hit points and sanity points that the computer. Would like to have seen more cards as the game went on as well.

Downgraded rating from 4 to 3 stars after beating the game. I spent that amount of time gaining a S rating in every slot to receive nothing? Not even a "You Win" screen? Dropped the ball there
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The interface for the previous game was better. But if this was improved, along with the mechanics, I think it works well. And the attack should be automated when there are no defenders.

another necronomicon game? :0 :). that is all i have to say. the last one was in my top 7 favorite games, and i hope i will say the same for this one.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Hot damn. Been waiting for this sequel for years. The only thing I miss is the true scariness of the original. Part of the problem is the music. The purely atmospheric sounds of the original were incredibly unnerving. That said, I'm thrilled to have a sequel. Multiplayer???
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
the sequel to the infamous Necronomicon! I had to pause myself as I recalled the epic struggle for the impossible badge. good times. well, the sequel, so far I've seen, features mostly slightly increased complexity by categorizing cards (location, attacking/defending positions, items...) and a few new additions. so far I've passed half of it, but not much new has been seen... the game is still ridiculously hard at times, the cards are the same, the game's "campaign" is something we've seen before. I however hope some of this changes before the end. :) many great thanks to you, Cthulhu fans, for making this game possible.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The creature attacks seem to be bugged. I have attack 11 and the opponent has defence 5 (+elder defence 3 which I should ignore) but I'm still not doing ANY damage. :-(
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Why is it that, when I load game, it starts me at the beginning of a level instead of putting me at the level select screen? Also, it doesn't start me at the newest level, it makes me start at the last level beaten, which caused me to kill my "S" rank on that level. :/ Very annoying.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Kinda buggy isn't it? Card says "removes taint while in play" does not. Card says "adds arcane while in play" doesn't. The graphics are harder to read than the original. I actually like the fact that it is truly a different game, but it needs work.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I like the game, but I have two big gripes. First is the lack of deck building, and second is the reliance on luck. I can be completely ****ed by my hand. Utterly. Recently, I got poisoned for 7, the opponent was attacking with a shargoth and one of those tentacle tainting 5/5 creatures, I couldn't keep any creatures in play, and most of my hand (4 cards) didn't do anything (dispell, bookworms, useless tome, Assassinate). It was incredibly frustrating, as this was the third game in a row (though by far the worst) in which I hadn't stood a chance. Every game needs to be winnable, and when there are around 1/3 to 1/2 that aren't...well...that needs to be fixed. Perhaps give the option to discard your hand, and not gain anything. or discard any three cards, and not gain anything. Basically, some method to cycle through cards more efficiently.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
ok.. the game actually was easiest towards the end, but for me the only thing really missing was an ending. beat lvl 30, all levels S. Now what?
