Thanks for pointing out my dumb Kong banner placement on the map screen. Egg on my face!
Just to clear up a couple of things:
Old saves aren't compatible because several adjustments were made that would have been broken by them. (Most notably, element change as an item property no longer exists)
The reason for releasing as a stand-alone expansion is simply because if I just updated the old file it would break all saves and 99% of people would never know it was updated... Not to win a competition. (lol)
4.5 is also a stop-gap release prior to Protector 5 since number 5 won't be finished for quite a while. But trust me, it's going to be *insanely* epic and well worth the wait. Legends chapter 2 is still being worked on, don't worry!

It was really good to see this game, but really bad to find that I couldn't use my old save file. 4/5 for having to trawl through the game again.

So we have to start from scratch from the original campaign in order to get to the new content, whatever that is? And units are the same, skills are the same, talents are the same, hell, even the shitty protectopedia is the same! So what was so difficult about adding the new content as an update to Protector IV, rather than making a new game entry that effectively renders the other one obsolete?

What a horrible excuse for posting a new game. Of course all the fanboys are blindly 5/5ing it, but... what has changed? "New quests"? No one is playing this game for the generic text between the TD levels. If you're that bored that you want to play all the same levels all over again, be my guest, though.

gaminic pls stop complaining about that. everytime he releases protectors everyone is whining (more quests etc. !) and know we get an EXPANSION and people are still complaining -.-

protectopedia needs a section on wtf some item effects are. gold return?loot chance (is it for that hero's units only or as long as the hero is in that battle?)
some other improvements that could be made: split the wave indicator into top and bottom halves to show strength and weakness of the wave. makes it much easier to see if all those energy units you are building now will be entirely useless against the latter half of the map and or absorbed (which should have a special icon entirely) so you dont go overboard and build so many it kills you.

Protector IV is my favorite tower defense game. I love that you're still working on it, and hopefully wait for protector V. However, I really wish that this linked to our existing protector IV saved files somehow.

@ xandramas, I completely agree. Protector 4 was great and all but I don't want a Protector 4 1/2 with little extra content. I want Arkandian Crusade 2 or My Pet Protector 3. Sorry undefined. I love your work but this gets a 3 star from me. I'm not giving a 1 or 2 since you're such a cool and nice guy.

I love the protector series but this looks like a cheap way for him to make money by just re-releasing his game to get on top 5. Do not rate this 5. Rate it 3 because it only adds a couple things and was re-released as a new game

@Senretsu: I'm full aware of the concept. But this expansion simply isn't as big an upgrade as I personally feel it should be, to be deserving of this particular award. If you disagree, vote it 5 by all means. The problem i have is that people are voting 5 without actually playing the game. THAT is not the way to judge whetehr or not a game is great... blind hero worship. It's just an opinion.

@d_swabey: Good games get good ratings. It even states in the description this is little more than an improvement (Hence "expansion" pack). Games get expansion packs all the time, be they retail or free. Improving upon one's game gets it's rating higher and flash games are no exception. The fact is, he puts effort into his games and deserves to be treated as such. It can't be a shame when a good game wins a prize :)

It's a little annoying when people start saying that they've given a 5 rating before the game's loaded, etc... Fair enough, the Protector series is great, and this is almost no exception, but... to be honest, there's not a big difference between this and the previous version. A few more quests, heroes et al, but really, it's little more than an add-on. And the fact that it'll win the weekly/monthly awards for a slight upgrade, I feel, is a shame. That's all...

it would be nice if at the beginning they gave you a hero with units specific to your bonus's, since i chose fire and magic, i found out afterwords that i had a energy mage and fire warrior, then spent ages looking for a fire mage

Just echoing the crowd here: please move the Kongregate banner, it's incredibly annoying to clickthrough to it when you're trying to close a scroll.

Undefined you make the finest games on the internets. EVERYONE CLAP!!!! Seriously though. Variability is the single most important part of any tower defense game, a feature this as well as the rest of your work have in spades. I love leveling stuff up.
