Game needs tool tips like a diabetic needs insulin. You better study the tutorial like a monk. It's the only time the rules of the game are explained. You can't even do a review. You get it flashed across your screen one time for each thing and that's that. If you didn't get it, tough cookies. That said, you all got a good idea here. It needs a lot more love though.
Ninja Kiwi makes some of the best flash games. They know this. The mistake they are making, is that they are highly overvaluing what 'the best flash game' is actually worth. It's sad, I suppose, but it is true.
Your response to exdeadman is sad. "We recognize that our game is broken but it's a lot of work and we don't really care all that much." Welcome to sequel irrelevancy.
I see the influence of Kingdom Rush with the use of troops and towers. Cursed Treasure with the 'areas' that you can build in. Gemcraft in the grinding. What people say is true....you have taken influence from these other games, quite obviously. But you know what? I dig it! Well done. Very well done. You are a true TD lover. You took three of the best TD titles ever and tried to make them into something more. You mostly succeeded. Congrats. This game idea can be taken further and I encourage you to do so.
I have 3500 Silver but cannot buy a new deck that appears to cost 1000 Silver because it takes me to a Kong pop-up that wants 500 Kreds. Maybe I am misunderstanding something.
See, this game is a good example. Other games are like, "Here's %90 of the game, pay me to see the end because I have no faith in my product.". Then some games are like, "Here's %10 of the game, you have no idea what you're doing yet, but pay me to see the rest because I have no faith in my product."
Most of the time both of these fail because these are horrible ratios in either case and because the games are way too short to warrant the kind of payment they want. This game gives you a good 20-30% sample, a solid idea of what you're getting in to, and a solid game mechanic underneath it all. But as one who actually bought the whole game I can tell you that the demo doesn't lie. If you liked it, you will probably like the rest of the game and will probably not be disappointed by the length. It gets a tad grindy near the end, but is still enjoyable. Hate the approach all you want to (I don't in this case) but the game itself is rock solid.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3 is one of the few games I have donated credits to so it pains me to say this, but the controls in this game are so unbelievably unintuitive I just cannot rate it very high. Maybe this is a great game, maybe it isn't, no way to know as I just cannot advance and/or don't have the patience to...even with badges added. I will say at least one constructive thing though, the wasd/arrow thing should maybe be reversed? Almost no games require and nor do most gamers still use arrow keys to move their avatar in nearly any genre of game ever anymore. wasd has been the standard for character movement in nearly everything from platformers to FPS to sidescrollers to space shooters for longer than I care to remember. Soooo many otherwise good games on Kong have been ruined by bad controls, and this is another one of them. I hate to say it but there it is.
Mr. Ook, or can I call you Nerd? Please don't stop making games. You have a real knack for this. You know how to make a game fun and not just try to "beat" the player like so many devs on Kong are want to do. I tend to rate a game 2 stars right as the page loads (to get the point) and then adjust that rating after I play. Your games get automatic 4 stars and are then adjusted from there (almost never downward). Bravo on another simple yet excellent and elegant game.
Okay this game wins. I'd say I've tried to get the last star about 500 times now. I can kill all the enemies except the Korpral Boss, or I can kill that Boss but have to let a few enemies slide in the middle rounds. I just can't seem to tweak it just right, maybe another Chuck would help. Then I notice 200 bonus gold if I play on another website and I'm like "..."
I promise you, I PROMISE YOU, if you would have seen the run I was just given you would fix your game. Wolves get to attack me 4 times to my 1 and I have only had the opportunity to upgrade my armor once? Dude...
Lost my partner because he died in front of a door and the option to revive him didn't pop up, only the option to open the door. Tried every pixel, nada. No biggie though, the partners aren't all that much help anyway. Just FYI for the dev.
Lock the mouse to the game upon click and let it 'slide' along the edges. When a game of this type makes you often back up to the the bottom of the screen due to bullets....it kills the player if they happen to back up even one pixel too far. Other games of this type have done this, and so should you. That said, damn fine game otherwise.
