Fun game. Shame about the sloppy coding causing a white screen. Maybe you should look into making the game playable someday.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but if your pet is defeated in a fight you win they don't get exp. I'm way, way more resilient than my pet, so none of my pets level up anymore. If this is a bug, please fix this. If it's intentional, please mention it in the help section you created.

The autolevelling on monsters sucks any satisfaction of leveling out of this game. The leveling mechanic should have been scrapped if levels don't provide any actual benefit.

Yeesh, had this marked as 4 stars, then saw Iriysoft have a tantrum when a woman pointed out that it's kind of sexist to have every female hero scantily clad and none of the guys. There are tons of defenses you could have used, Iriysoft, but "Well I know one lady was okay with it and we're not going to stop any time soon" probably wasn't the best one. 1/5.

Developer response from IriySoft

Well I can't say it was a tantrum - I would say it was a reasonable response. And please don't distort my message. What I was trying to say is "there are women who don't feel the game is sexist". Also I didn't mean that we're not going to stop (stop what? making games?), I meant "I don't see any reasons for such attack on Band Of Heroes". I believe if you want to find elements of sexism, you will find it in many games/movies/books. On one hand I don't support sexism, on the other hand, I don't understand people who proclaim the game is sexist.

5 stars for fun, knocked down to 3 because of level 16 hating on older computers. C'mon guys, you should know better than that.

Cute little game. It would have been nice to be given a bit more direction, but in such a small world with so little time to make it, you made it clear enough to brute-force a solution. Controls were smooth enough on my browser. In general, a nice little attempt for Ludum Dare.

Developer response from onehandclap

Thank you very much! You entirely got the point about the direction the game took, due to time constraints. =)

I say graphics are your weak spot with this game not because I'm a fan of hugely-lush graphics, but because there really isn't anything else I can complain about. It's not my cup of tea (I feel like I basically just mash arrow keys until I brute-force the solution) but it's also a very well-made game. Good work!

Developer response from Nelagend

I'm currently planning a sequel with nicer graphics that rewards the player for planning their route rather than just mashing. I find myself mashing on this game too once I determine a general direction.

Yeah no. There needs to be some accomodation that this isn't a thumb-swipe game any more. Mice work differently. Kudos on making such an iOS-utilizing game, but boo for just porting it over without taking that into consideration.

Smooth controls and checkpoints to prevent frustration were both very nice. My major complaint is there's not enough feedback on what you're supposed to be doing. The description says you're trying to see how long you can survive, but in fact there's an endpoint you're racing to in each level, and the idols I though were "punishing" me with time reduction are actually bonus objects. I gave a 3 because it was a pleasant distraction, but it needs a better description at minimum.

The art is very nice and the controls are smooth if a little sluggish. For a first game this certainly isn't shabby. It would be nice to have a win screen, the fact that it's arrow keys and *space bar* rather than mouse, or something beyond a single iteration of Space Invaders. I think more levels, or some sort of tweak on the gameplay would be very useful, but as I said this is a respectable first showing, and I look forward to seeing more.

I had more fun with this than I'd want to admit. A pause button would be nice, as would maybe a bit of variation in enemy types or behavior, but the core is solid. The sound effects made me chuckle. A lot. This was a fun 10-minute time-waster, which is more than I can say for a lot of games.

Argh. Great idea, but just about totally unplayable by a single person. Even just running two guys around with a third on shoot was both brain-scrambling and more frustrating than fun. Excellent polish, professional presentation, but the core mechanic is just no fun to me.

Nice retro music, tight controls, simple design, elegant execution. It was certainly a bit on the easy side and could use some gameplay changes or complexity or difficulty, but it played smoothly and was pleasant. I enjoyed it.

Not unplayable, but very opaque. Especially in a strategy game, not knowing what actions lead to what results is rather frustrating. In a sufficiently flashy/dramatic game I'm willing to hang on through some confusion on the rules of engagement to keep the story going. Here, since the gameplay IS the draw, it being hard to understand is a swift, cruel death to my interest. I'd work at either some form of in-game help, a tutorial, or different difficulty levels to make the first 5 minutes more attractive to a player. Good luck, and since this is a beta I look forward to the polished release.

The art style is really great, I enjoy the heavy pixel look and the color shifts were very pleasing to the eye. The lag on the turret was somewhat problematic: a game's difficulty should never be because of poor input processing. I understand it was probably put in because on its own the game isn't very challenging, but I'd argue that faster spore growth and different "floater" behaviors would provide a better challenge than a sluggish turret. Similarly, I'd space the powerups out a little further, since there was a steady progression to 3x firing, and then it stopped, which felt a little weird. Maybe have spore growth speed up but have powerups continue to move through? Despite all this nitpicks, I think this was a fun game and a good job. 4/5

Good art direction, but the mechanics weren't very fun. Reaction is sluggish and there's no cues on motion. Especially given the background's implied extreme speed, having a slow, unresponsive dog was a drag. Maybe next time just have him track to the mouse and speed everything up a bit?

Not amazing, but pleasant, inoffensive, and mildly distracting. The music gets somewhat grating over time, adding just a second track would likely help with that. Having the drops happen a touch faster would be nice, especially given that it declares no combo while shapes are dropping. Could be polished more, but the core idea was modestly fun.

I just realized I was very harsh, and didn't mention the many good points. I really like the art direction, the entire thing has an air of spooky Lovecraftian-ness which does a great job of bringing back my memories of the original Zelda where each screen beyond the starting one held wondrous and terrible beings. The story (what little I saw) seemed to be very engaging. I look forward to seeing your further work.

I couldn't even hold on long enough to find the sword, slipping about helplessly as enemies kill you is surprisingly un-fun.
