with the potion of pixie attraction, 2 pixies spawn. But when you click on one it seems to respawn the other. Which means if you have a blue and purple pixie and you click the blue one the purple will often respawn as a blue.
Great game, nice choice of music to go with each level and a nice art style with a consistent theme. Love the level design too, definitely leaning towards the harder side as you've got to be determined if you want to finish. I think that fits the tone of the game though. I also like how the story was intertwined with the levels and as the game progresses everything you learned previously gets combined and used later.
I like the concept but it seems that obstacles can spawn on the snake causing an unavoidable death. So I couldn't get past the first few seconds after the hack. Not sure if there are many cutscenes after the first but it would nice to have a button to skip the cutscenes or even an option to skip them automatically after the first time seeing one. Another nice feature would be to have a keyboard button to reset after death.
An interesting idea for extending the game would be to have it so after you defeat the darkness a view for an extended map is unlocked. So you could see a 3x3 area with each segment being a map you can play on. These maps could either be levels with different requirements to win or you could use the central map as a base to push into the darkness to defeat/collect something and expand your base.
If you want to accommodate players who prefer easier games having a difficulty option would be a way of doing that. A few ways of changing the difficulty would be 1. slow the overall speed of the ship and obstacles down, 2. change some levels so there are more blank walls to crash and slow down on, 3. give the player health so they can survive more than one collision with an obstacle. Any one of these is probably enough. Also just on the last level, I have no idea how to complete it and on the last boss after collecting a key nothing appeared to happen which made it frustrating as there is no sense of progress and have no idea how long I would have to survive for. (Part 2)
Love this kind of skill-based game and the levels give a good challenge. A couple of things that might be useful to make the game easier would be to teach the player a little more and give more hints and ques using the background. For example with the first boss initially I kept trying to dodge the boss and get behind him. If the background were a race track with arrows going around I wouldn't make that mistake. Another thing that could be useful is having ghost ships which can give the player hints like how to stop in a small space or that you can still turn in the green areas where your engine is shut off. (Part 1)
I'm pretty sure I somehow made the game impossible to complete. I'm max level completed the quest left and right. The main quest is to cross the cave. But because I keep get knocked across the line it triggers a new green enemy spawn. There are now quite a few of them and even if I drag them back to town to be killed there is still at least one that was far enough not to follow so when I go back there is two of them to fight right away so I get knocked pass the spawner again and run into the same problem. Probably would be a good idea to clear enemies on player death to avoid this.
Are you using the shield to prevent the knockback? (arrow key down) While you walk in you step on spawn triggers. When the orc knockbacks you, he pushes you over the trigger again and a new one is spawned. You must walk straight forward and block the orcs attacks, if you retreat, more are spawned. The game resets the triggers when the player dies, but not the enemies. I think you're right and I should clear the enemies too. Thank you for the feedback, arioth!
A nice minimalistic RPG. The transitions really slow the game down. The one where you slide across the screen is confusing. There seems to be no risk and no clear reason for anything that happens in it. Look forward to seeing your next game =)
Hi arioth!
Thanks for playing! You're probably right - I could have made Maze Dog a little chubbier after eating all the snacks ... perhaps in Maze Dog 2 down the road, I'll have a use for snacks as well, or maybe have Maze Dog find cool items in the snack mounds! I was thiiiiiis close to including a cool skateboard for Maze Dog to ride around, but that idea fell by the wayside. Thanks for the feedback. :)
Thanks for the help. I got past the room but now I can't play as I keep getting an exception thrown. I got to the room with 3 amp readers, 2 resistors and 3 locked doors. On the second thing I wire the exception gets thrown and the game crashes. I think this has something to do with previous still running after loading, as I can hear platforms moving when I load in. Hope you can work this out so I can finish the game =).
Yikes ok I'l definitely check into that (I'm out of the country at the moment with a very poor internet connection - mack on Tuesday, but I'll see what I can do)
Great game. One problem though, if you get hit by an ice bullet after its effect is over you start going faster and faster for each time you got hit by one.
Love the game, it's a great idea and well executed. Just on the first level with the instructions, it would be nice if you widened it so as left and right visibly did something.
Arioth, we're sorry your pixies are being coy. We've noted this bug and hope to have a patch for it soon.
