Travel speed is not useless: if the projectiles are too slow you'll hit the cap and be forced to upgrade it.

It's easy: the Penguin tech speeds up time itself. The projectile fly faster but it means they also fall down faster. That's why their speed upgrade doesn't improve range. Penguin physics at its phinest.

You see a lot of games around that are criticized for awkward controls, but never one that is praised for having comfortable controls. This one has togglable autofire, all buttons are remappable, and all sound volume can be adjusted, so it's definitely the latter.
